SPAR Fire: Orok Duke Calls for Recovery of Fire Trucks Found at Former Official’s Residence

CALABAR – The Cross River State representative on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Rt. Hon. Chief Orok Otu Duke, has called for the recovery of fire trucks reportedly found at the residence of a former government official and their deployment to strengthen the state’s emergency response capacity.

Duke made the call while expressing deep concern and sympathy over the fire outbreak that gutted sections of the SPAR Mall, also known as Calabar Mall, in the early hours of Saturday, August 22, 2026.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Duke sympathised with the management of Artee Group/SPAR Mall Nigeria, affected traders, shop owners, workers and others who lost valuable goods and investments in the incident.

He noted that it was reassuring that no lives were lost or serious injuries recorded, attributing this in part to the efforts of emergency responders.

The NDDC commissioner commended the Cross River State Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force and other security and emergency agencies for their prompt response in containing the fire, securing the premises and preventing further damage or looting.

However, Duke said the incident had again highlighted the need for Cross River State to strengthen its firefighting and emergency response infrastructure.

“I also wish that some of the Fire Trucks that were recently discovered in the private residence of a former Govt official, could be recovered and added to the fleet of CRS owned Fire Trucks,” he stated.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Duke said preliminary reports pointed to a possible electrical fault.

He urged the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough, transparent and expeditious investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify measures to prevent a recurrence.

Duke, who represents Cross River State on the NDDC Board, also acknowledged the economic impact of the fire on businesses and livelihoods, describing SPAR Mall as an important commercial hub for Calabar and the wider state.

He expressed his readiness to support coordinated efforts by the Cross River State Government, led by Governor Bassey Otu, and other stakeholders to provide relief and facilitate the recovery of affected businesses.

He further called on Cross Riverians, corporate organisations and development partners to extend practical support to those affected by the disaster.

Duke prayed for comfort and strength for the victims as they work to rebuild their businesses and recover from the losses.

Again, UNICAL VC Defies Court Order, Bars Worshippers From Chapel

CALABAR — The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Offiong Offiong, has been accused of defying a subsisting Federal High Court injunction after university security personnel again prevented worshippers from accessing the University of Calabar Chapel of Redemption for Sunday service.

The development occurred on Sunday, August 23, 2026, barely three days after the Federal High Court reportedly sustained its earlier injunction restraining the Vice-Chancellor and other parties from interfering with the affairs and activities of the Chapel.

The court had initially issued the injunction on August 4, directing the parties to maintain the status quo and restraining interference with the Chapel and its activities. The matter came up again on August 20, when the injunction was reportedly reinforced, with the case adjourned to September 2 for arguments on the substantive application.

Despite the order, armed university security personnel reportedly prevented members of the Chapel from entering the premises on Sunday.

According to the worshippers, the security personnel said they were acting on the directive of the Vice-Chancellor and ordered them to leave the university premises.

The worshippers subsequently relocated their service to a nearby street, where they continued with their worship.

The incident is the second reported disruption of the Chapel's Sunday worship in recent weeks. On August 16, worshippers were similarly denied access to the Chapel and were forced to hold an open-air service around the Fire Service Park within the university environment.

The latest development has further escalated the already protracted leadership crisis rocking the Chapel of Redemption, with the legality of the university administration's intervention now forming a major point of contention.

The crisis began after Prof. Offiong reportedly removed Rev. Joseph Ushie as Chaplain of the Chapel, evicted him from his university accommodation and appointed Rev. Israel Eyo as interim Chaplain.

The Vice-Chancellor also reportedly suspended Prof. Essien Oku, Chairman of the Chapel Council, dissolved the Council and constituted a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the church.

These actions have been challenged by members of the Chapel, who argue that the Vice-Chancellor lacks the legal authority to unilaterally determine the leadership and internal administration of the Chapel.

Counsel to Rev. Ushie, Mba Ukweni, SAN, has argued before the court that the Vice-Chancellor lacks the statutory authority under the University of Calabar Act to administer or control the Chapel.

The Chapel's position is that it is a separate legal entity from the University of Calabar, with its own governing structures, constitution and management.

The latest confrontation has therefore raised a fundamental question over the extent of the Vice-Chancellor's authority over the Chapel and whether the university administration can lawfully prevent its members from accessing the church premises.

Adding another dimension to Sunday's incident, the university security personnel reportedly told the worshippers that they could lose their jobs if they failed to enforce the directive to prevent the service from holding.

After the worshippers relocated outside the Chapel, university authorities allegedly informed the Cross River State Police Command that the group had barricaded the university entrance.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Godwin Etim, subsequently arrived at the scene with police personnel.

However, after assessing the situation, the police reportedly found that the worshippers had not barricaded the university entrance as alleged and left the area.

Speaking on the development, Mr Imo Nse, Secretary of the Chapel Council, said members were disappointed that the court's injunction had not translated into freedom to worship within the Chapel.

"We remain committed to obeying the law, our only demand is freedom to worship while this matter remains before the court," he said.

The latest incident is expected to further intensify scrutiny of the University's handling of the Chapel dispute, particularly as the substantive matter remains before the Federal High Court.

For the worshippers, the central issue is no longer merely who occupies the position of Chaplain, but whether the university administration has the legal authority to determine the affairs of a church they maintain operates as a separate legal entity.

The court is expected to hear arguments on the substantive application when the matter returns on September 2, 2026.

2027: Tinubu Picks Otu as APC South-South Campaign Coordinator, Yari DG

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, as the South-South Zonal Campaign Coordinator of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Otu's appointment is contained in the 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council unveiled on Saturday, with former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, named Director-General of the council.

Under the structure, Tinubu will serve as Chairman, Vice President Kashim Shettima as Vice Chairman I, while APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as Vice Chairman II. Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was appointed Secretary.

Otu is one of six zonal campaign coordinators appointed to oversee the party's presidential campaign across the country. He will coordinate the APC's campaign activities in the South-South zone, alongside Governor Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu for the South-East, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the South-West, Governor Umar Bago for the North-Central, Senator Modu Sheriff for the North-East and Governor Uba Sani for the North-West.

The appointment gives the Cross River governor a prominent role in the APC's national campaign machinery and places him at the centre of the party's mobilisation strategy in the South-South.

Other Cross Riverians get key roles

Otu is not the only Cross River-linked political figure featuring prominently in the campaign structure.

Former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Chimaobim Edu, was named Director of Women Mobilisation, placing her in charge of a major directorate expected to drive the mobilisation of women voters and party supporters nationwide. The campaign list specifically identifies Edu as director, with three deputy directors and the APC National Women Leader as secretary.

Another prominent Cross Riverian, Senator John Owan Enoh, was appointed Director of Manufacturing and MSME Sector Mobilisation. He will oversee the directorate responsible for engaging the manufacturing and micro, small and medium enterprise sectors as part of the campaign structure.

Also on the list is former Senator and prominent Cross River politician, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, who was named among the Advisers to the Chairman alongside former APC National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, Chief Segun Osoba, former Governor Rochas Okorocha and former APC National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

Rt. Hon. Ochielegor Idagbo also appears in the campaign structure as Zonal Secretary, South-South, under the Support Group Coordination Directorate.

The appointments mean that Cross River has a notable presence in different layers of the APC's 2027 presidential campaign architecture, from zonal coordination and women mobilisation to sectoral engagement, support-group coordination and the advisory team.

223-member campaign machinery

The APC's expanded campaign council comprises 223 listed members and includes directorates covering finance, fundraising, election planning and coordination, media and strategic communication, youth and women mobilisation, persons with disabilities, sports, education, manufacturing and MSMEs, faith-based mobilisation, labour relations, grassroots engagement, digital operations and community support.

The council also has a strong South-South representation beyond the zonal coordinator. It includes senior political figures and professionals assigned to various directorates, reflecting the party's attempt to build a broad campaign structure ahead of the 2027 contest.

With Otu now entrusted with coordinating the South-South campaign, the appointment is expected to make Cross River's political leadership an important component of the APC's strategy to consolidate its presence across the region ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The development also gives Otu a national political assignment beyond the governance of Cross River, as he becomes responsible for coordinating the ruling party's presidential campaign across the South-South geopolitical zone. 

Fresh Controversy Trails Omini Over Alleged Assault Linked to His Driver

A Calabar businesswoman, Ayei Eyong Ubana, has been hospitalised after she was allegedly beaten unconscious by her former partner, Okongor James, a retired driver reportedly still working with the office of the Cross River State House of Assembly member representing Yakurr I State Constituency, Hon Cyril Omini.

Ubana alleged that the incident occurred in the early hours of July 26, 2026, at her residence at No. 7 Gregory Effiong Street, Ikot Ansa, Calabar Municipality, following the collapse of her more than five-year relationship with James.

According to her account, James arrived at her residence around midnight, leading to an argument between them. She alleged that the disagreement escalated into a physical assault during which James repeatedly attacked her and struck her on the head, causing her to lose consciousness.

Ubana said she regained consciousness after 6 a.m. while receiving medical attention at Joemede Pharmaceuticals in Calabar.

She sustained visible bruises in  her face and complained of persistent pain. Ubana also alleged that she has experienced difficulty speaking properly since the incident.

The businesswoman further alleged that some of her personal belongings were disposed of during the confrontation, including wrappers, trousers and approximately N500,000 in cash. She estimated the total value of the items allegedly lost at about N2 million.

Three other persons, including Ubana’s uncle, her nine-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old niece, were reportedly present at the residence during the incident.

Ubana alleged that the July 26 confrontation was not the first instance of physical violence in the relationship, claiming that James had previously slapped her during disagreements. However, she described the latest incident as significantly more severe because it allegedly left her unconscious and in need of medical treatment.

James was reportedly arrested on July 28 and subsequently granted bail by the Zone 6 Police Command.

The allegations have attracted attention because of James’s reported connection to Omini, who is also the Chairman of the Cross River State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

Earlier Allegations Against Omini

The latest allegations come against the backdrop of separate accusations made against Hon Cyril by activist MC Okrika over an unrelated incident involving another young woman in Calabar.

In a viral video, Okrika called on the Inspector-General of Police to intervene, while accusing the lawmaker of having a role in the alleged abduction and assault of the woman.

Okrika alleged that the incident followed a social media controversy involving an anonymous post about people from Yakurr, in which some young women from the area were allegedly accused of engaging in “hook-up” activities in Calabar.

According to the activist, he contacted Omini over the matter, but the lawmaker allegedly accused him of engaging in what he described as “blackmail activism”.

Okrika further alleged that Omini subsequently published a post offering N5 million to anyone who could identify or produce the woman responsible for the social media post.

The activist claimed that the woman was later taken from her residence by men he described as “kidnappers” and allegedly assaulted before being taken to Omini’s residence instead of a police station.

He further alleged that she was assaulted at the residence and subsequently handed over to the police.

Okrika said the woman remained in police custody at the time he recorded the video and questioned why someone accused of defamation would allegedly be taken into private custody rather than being reported directly to law-enforcement authorities.

“I am far more embarrassed in Hon Cyril. This is a man I hold in a very high esteem,” Okrika said in the video, alleging that the woman’s vulnerable background was exploited.

He also accused Omini of using his alleged influence within the police to ensure the woman remained in detention following the purported assault.

Betta Edu Gets Another National Appointment

ABUJA – Former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, has secured another major national political assignment after being appointed Director of Women Mobilisation in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election.

Edu’s appointment was contained in the list of members of the campaign council released on Saturday, as the APC formally begins preparations for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The appointment places Edu at the head of one of the campaign’s key mobilisation directorates and marks a return to a role in which she has previously played a prominent part.

Before her appointment as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in 2023, Edu served as the National Women Leader of the APC, a position she assumed in March 2022. As the party’s National Women Leader, she spearheaded nationwide efforts to mobilise women for the APC and the Tinubu-Shettima presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 general elections.

During that period, Edu led the party’s women mobilisation efforts across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, including grassroots and door-to-door mobilisation aimed at securing support for Tinubu and the APC.

Her political experience was subsequently followed by a national executive appointment, when President Tinubu appointed her Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in August 2023. She served in the Federal Executive Council until her suspension from office in January 2024.

With her latest appointment, Edu will once again be responsible for mobilising women for a presidential election campaign, making the 2027 assignment a return to a political responsibility she handled during the 2023 election cycle.

The new campaign council is chaired by President Tinubu, with the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, as Vice Chairman and former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as Director-General.

Edu’s return to the campaign structure underscores the importance the APC places on women mobilisation as it seeks to consolidate its support base ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The appointment also gives the former Cross River State Commissioner for Health another opportunity to operate at the centre of the APC’s national political mobilisation structure, after her earlier leadership of the party’s women wing and subsequent service in the Federal Executive Council.

SPAR Mall Fire: ‘I Understand The Pain Of Losing A Business’ — Ben Akak Condoles Victims

CALABAR — Chairman of the Ben Akak Foundation, Engr. Ben Akak, has expressed sympathy with the management of SPAR Mall, traders, business owners, workers and other victims of the fire incident that ravaged parts of the Calabar Mall, Cross River State, on Saturday.

The fire, which reportedly started in the early hours of Saturday, August 22, 2026, destroyed several shops, goods and other valuable property within the shopping complex.

Businesses reportedly affected include a pharmacy, electronics outlet, clothing store, perfumery and phone shop, with the extent of the losses still being assessed by relevant emergency agencies.

Reacting to the incident in a statement, Akak, who is also a businessman, said he understood the pain associated with losing a business and valuable investments to an unforeseen disaster.

He said: “I understand firsthand what it takes to build a business, sustain livelihoods and protect valuable investments,” adding that the losses suffered by the affected businesses and individuals were deeply painful.

According to him, the incident was not only a loss of property but also a setback to the livelihoods of traders, workers and business owners who depended on their investments for their daily sustenance.

He therefore extended his condolences to the management of SPAR Mall and all affected businesses, while also expressing solidarity with the Government and people of Cross River State over the incident.

The fire, which sent thick smoke across parts of Calabar, attracted emergency responders, including personnel of the Cross River State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service and University of Calabar Fire Service.

Although the inferno caused substantial property losses, no death was recorded in the incident. The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Cross River State Emergency Management Agency, CR-SEMA, and the Nigerian Red Cross Society have commenced documentation and assessment of the losses suffered by affected businesses and individuals.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. While preliminary reports have suggested a possible electrical fault, officials have stressed that the cause cannot be conclusively established until investigations are completed.

Akak further called for sustained support for the affected businesses and individuals, saying such assistance would be critical to helping them recover from the devastating setback.

He expressed hope that the victims would find the strength and resources to rebuild their businesses and restore their means of livelihood.

The Ben Akak Foundation Chairman also urged stakeholders and well-meaning individuals to rally around those affected, stressing the importance of supporting businesses and livelihoods in the aftermath of the disaster.

The Cross River State Government had earlier expressed sympathy with SPAR management and affected businesses and pledged support, while NEMA, CR-SEMA and the Nigerian Red Cross commenced a joint assessment to determine the extent of the destruction and immediate needs of the victims.  

2027: Otu Challenges Arthur Jarvis to Debate, Warns Against Cheap Attacks

CALABAR — Ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Cross River State, the administration of Governor Bassey Otu has challenged the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong, to a public debate on policies, programmes and the performance of the present administration.

The challenge was thrown by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Pastor Ekpenyong Cobham, who accused opposition politicians of engaging in personal attacks instead of offering concrete alternatives to the policies and programmes of the Otu administration.

Cobham spoke yesterday during a media briefing at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Centre, Calabar, where he responded to criticisms of the governor by opposition figures ahead of the 2027 election.

The commissioner said the opposition should raise the level of political discourse in the state by confronting the government with facts and offering alternative solutions rather than resorting to what he described as “rudimentary” political engagement.

He said: “Let them call us for a debate. Let them try and raise the bar, educate themselves to the strata we are operating on.”

According to him, the coming election should be about policies, programmes and measurable achievements rather than personal attacks on individuals.

Cobham, who said he had previously worked in opposition politics, added that he understood the role of opposition and was therefore prepared to engage critics of the administration.

“I have been in opposition. I was DG, Director General of APC's leadership campaign, and I understand what opposition means,” he said.

He challenged opposition politicians to identify areas where the Otu administration had failed and present their arguments before the people.

“Reel out what you think the government has not been able to achieve. Come up with strong reasons, and let us engage,” he said.

The commissioner also defended the governor's frequent engagements with the Federal Government, arguing that Cross River could not achieve major development objectives without sustained engagement with the centre.

He said critics who faulted the governor for spending time outside the state failed to appreciate the workings of Nigeria's federal system and the importance of securing federal support for state development.

Cobham further pointed to the state's recent emergence as an oil-producing state as one of the developments, which, according to him, demonstrated the direction of the Otu administration.

He said the government was positioning Cross River for greater economic opportunities and urged opposition politicians to engage such issues rather than focus on personal attacks.

The commissioner said the administration was ready to defend its record before Cross Riverians, insisting that the 2027 contest should provide voters with competing visions and programmes for the state's future.

The challenge comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with Archibong emerging as one of the prominent opposition voices challenging Otu's record. Recent public commentary on the coming election has increasingly framed the contest around the incumbent's performance and the opposition's ability to offer a credible alternative.

Dennis Odama Wasn’t Arrested by Otu, C’River Govt — Commissioner

CALABAR  –The Cross River State Government has distanced Governor Bassey Otu and the state government from the arrest and prosecution of social commentator, Dennis Odama, saying the matter did not originate from the governor or the government.

Commissioner for Information, Pastor Ekpenyong Cobham, made the clarification during a media briefing at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Centre, Calabar, while responding to questions on Odama’s arrest and ongoing legal proceedings.

Cobham said if the matter had originated from the state government, the appropriate government offices, including the Office of the Secretary to the State Government or the Attorney-General, would have handled it.

He explained that the petition was initiated by individuals who, although serving as government officials, acted in their personal capacities.

“The state government and the office of the Executive Governor should be alienated from this process because this process never originated from there,” Cobham said.

According to him, the fact that the petitioners are functionaries of the state government does not automatically make their personal action an action of the government.

The commissioner said the matter had entered the legal process following the petition and subsequent police action, stressing that the focus should now be on whether the alleged offence violated existing laws regulating the social media space and whether due process was followed.

He urged lawyers and other persons seeking to defend Odama to do so within the confines of the court rather than politicising the matter.

“Due process of the law is taking its course,” he said.

Odama was reportedly arrested by the police in Lagos before being transferred to Cross River, where he was arraigned and remanded in custody. A lawyer, Etaba Agbor, has separately called for his release, arguing that his detention raises concerns about constitutional freedoms and the rule of law.

Cobham, however, maintained that neither Governor Otu nor the state government should be held responsible for the prosecution, insisting that the legal process should be allowed to determine the matter.

He also challenged Odama to make public any information in his possession concerning allegations against the state government, rather than relying on social media platforms.

The commissioner further appealed to journalists to independently interrogate claims and counterclaims in the public space, promising greater access to government information under his administration.

He disclosed that the Ministry of Information would embark on a project-by-project assessment of government projects across the state, with journalists expected to participate in verifying their status.

According to him, the initiative would provide the media with reliable information on projects and enable journalists to hold government claims to scrutiny based on verified facts.

Take ownership of C’River, NYCN tells non-indigenous youths

CALABAR – The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Cross River State chapter, has urged non-indigenous youths resident in the state to take ownership of Cross River and contribute to its peace, security and development.

Chairman of the council, Comrade Emmanuel Olayi, made the call during a strategic engagement with youth leaders of non-indigenous groups as part of activities marking the 2026 International Youth Day.

Olayi said anyone who lived, worked or conducted business in Cross River had a responsibility to protect the state and contribute to its development, irrespective of his or her state of origin.

He urged non-indigenous youths to see themselves as stakeholders in Cross River and use their positions within their respective communities to promote peace, discourage criminality and protect public infrastructure.

The NYCN chairman said the engagement was particularly important because Cross River remained a cosmopolitan state where people from different parts of the country lived and conducted businesses.

According to him, youth leaders have an important responsibility to communicate the right messages to their members and ensure that young people do not become involved in gangs, violence or vandalism.

He said, “by virtue of the fact that you reside in Cross River, as a young person who has owned Cross River, by virtue of the fact that you do your business in Cross River as a young person who has owned Cross River, it means that you must talk about Cross River in the right light. You must protect Cross River.”

Olayi said the council had deliberately engaged leaders of non-indigenous youth groups because the development of Cross River could not be left to indigenes alone.

He urged the groups to encourage their members to obey the law, reject criminal networks and protect the state's infrastructure.

The council chairman's position comes amid wider debates on the place of non-indigenes in accessing economic and government opportunities in states across the country.

He said the issue should not be reduced to the state of origin of an individual, stressing that young people who live and contribute to the economy of Cross River should also develop a sense of responsibility towards the state.

Olayi called for stronger collaboration between indigenous and non-indigenous youths, saying peaceful coexistence was essential to the economic development of the state.

He said youth leaders could play a major role in preventing crime by communicating with young people within their communities and discouraging them from joining gangs or participating in acts capable of destabilising the state.

He added that the NYCN would continue to engage different youth groups across Cross River in its effort to build a united youth constituency capable of contributing to the development of the state.

The engagement formed part of activities organised by the NYCN Cross River State chapter to mark the 2026 International Youth Day.

C’River Youths Make Case for Odama, Seek Clemency

CALABAR – The Cross River State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has appealed to relevant authorities to consider clemency for Comr. Denis Odama, while urging him to tender an immediate and remorseful apology over his reported derogatory comments on social media.

The Council, under the leadership of its Chairman, Obol Comr. Emmanuel Olayi, made the appeal in a position statement on the circumstances surrounding Odama’s arrest and detention.

While stressing that it does not encourage insults, threats, personal attacks or irresponsible communication against public officials or fellow youths, the Council said disagreements and concerns raised by young citizens should, where possible, be addressed through lawful and peaceful channels.

According to the NYCN, it has been engaging relevant stakeholders since learning of Odama’s detention in a bid to achieve an amicable resolution.

The Council specifically appealed for “an immediate and remorseful apology” from Odama to all parties affected by his actions, particularly over the reported derogatory social-media comment.

It equally appealed to the appropriate authorities and other stakeholders to consider clemency and pardon for Odama or ensure that his matter is handled expeditiously in accordance with due process.

The youth body cautioned young people against resorting to violence or abusive actions in their efforts to seek Odama’s release, citing the African proverb that “you cannot quench fire with fire.”

It urged youths to understand the boundaries set by the law and stressed that an amicable settlement remained the best option for all concerned.

The NYCN further commended the parties affected by the matter for relying on legally constituted authorities to seek redress rather than resorting to self-help, describing such action as an indication of commitment to the rule of law and peace.

The Council also clarified that its intervention should not be interpreted as an endorsement of any statement or conduct attributed to Odama.

“Rather, it is a principled appeal for restraint by young people, mercy from the injured authority and reconciliation by all,” the Council stated, adding that Cross River had a tradition of peace, dialogue and responsible leadership.

It therefore called on all parties to place the collective peace and unity of the state above individual differences, while urging young people to communicate responsibly and protect the corporate image of Cross River State.

The NYCN said it would continue its expanded stakeholder engagements and consultations towards an amicable settlement of issues involving young people in the state, rather than embarking on protests which, it warned, could be hijacked by “enemies of the state” for selfish interests.

The Council reiterated its commitment to justice, peace, responsible citizenship, dialogue and the protection of the legitimate interests of young people and the overall development of Cross River State.
