APC Must Unite Under Otu’s Leadership in C’River, South-South – Hakim

LAGOS – The National Director of Strategy, Deployment and Implementation for the Relax, Tinubu is Fixing Nigeria initiative, Amb. David Hakim, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to unite under the leadership of Cross River State Governor, Bassey Edet Otu, describing him as a stabilising force for the party in the South-South region.

Hakim made the call during the just-concluded South-West Zonal Unity Walk held in Lagos State, where key party stakeholders gathered to mobilise grassroots support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and promote awareness of ongoing reforms.

Speaking alongside the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, and other party leaders, Hakim emphasised the need for cohesion within the APC, noting that unity remains critical to sustaining the party’s dominance and delivering on its promises to Nigerians.

He commended Governor Otu for what he described as “giant strides” in governance and party leadership, asserting that his performance has positioned him as a rallying point for the APC in the South-South.

“Governor Otu has demonstrated exemplary leadership both in governance and party administration. The APC in the South-South must consolidate its gains by rallying behind him,” Hakim stated.

The APC chieftain further urged party faithful in Cross River State and across the region to support Otu’s second-term bid, stressing that continuity in leadership would deepen development gains and strengthen the party’s structure at the grassroots.

Hakim also called on stakeholders to intensify efforts in promoting the achievements of the Tinubu administration, noting that many Nigerians are yet to fully grasp the impact of key economic and policy reforms.

According to him, citizen engagement and the dissemination of verified information are essential in building public trust and reinforcing support for government initiatives.

In his address the Deputy Governor of Lagos state, Obafemi Hamzat, urged Nigerians to continue backing the administration’s efforts to stabilise the economy, enhance security, and drive infrastructure development across the country.

The Unity Walk, which drew participation from party leaders and supporters across the South-West, forms part of broader mobilisation efforts aimed at strengthening party cohesion and expanding its support base nationwide.

Olayi Appeals to Otu on Equity, Fairness in Northern Senatorial Elections

CALABAR – The Chairman, Cross River State chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Comrade Emmanuel Olayi, has called on Governor Bassey Edet Otu to ensure that principles of equity and fairness guide decisions surrounding the forthcoming Northern Senatorial elections.

The appeal was made during an engagement between youth leaders and the Governor recently in Calabar, where he emphasized the importance of maintaining longstanding rotational arrangements and inclusive political practices across the state.

“As a young person, there is one word I like so much, which is equity,” Olayi stated. “When we had our own contest, we agreed, just like our elders did, that leadership should be rotational. That understanding brought unity and made the process peaceful.”

He stressed that such principles should be upheld at higher levels of governance, especially in politically sensitive periods.

Speaking about the Senatorial elections in the North Olayi said;

“We are getting into a very serious season in the life of the country and the state, Your Excellency, I appeal that the decisions taken at this time should reflect fairness and help keep us at peace, especially in the Northern Senatorial District.”

Lending his voice with the demands of the OBO Movement, Olayi pleaded with the governor to allow equity and inclusiveness guide party decisions in zoning the party's ticket for the Northern Senatorial District.

Olayi commended Governor Otu for his administration’s youth-focused interventions, noting that hundreds of young people have benefited from empowerment programmes.

“Only last year, over 400 persons were empowered, and shortly after, another 400 youths were trained in ICT and given gadgets free of charge,” he said. “Even now, there are ongoing plans to mobilize more young people for empowerment. All these are happening under your watch.”

Describing the Governor’s leadership style, Olayi added: “We have a government that listens, a government that is God-fearing, and one that has shown wisdom in leadership. We are confident that same wisdom will guide the right decisions at this time.”

He further assured the Governor of the unwavering support of youths across the state.

“All the youths you see here and across the state have 100 percent loyalty to you,” he said. “We will continue to mobilize and ensure that peace is maintained. For those who want to cause trouble, we know them, and we are engaging them constructively.”

Responding, Governor Bassey Edet Otu commended the youth leaders for their maturity and commitment to peace, noting that their role is critical in sustaining stability and development in the state.

“You have shown capacity and leadership within a very short period,” the Governor said. “That is something we should all be proud of.”

He added: “I am proud of the quality of leadership emerging among our young people. In your time, whether anyone likes it or not, you will take your place. So, continue with the good work you are doing.”

C’River Forestry Comm Moves Against Illegal Timber Dumping, Issues 2-Week Evacuation Deadline

CALABAR – The Cross River State Forestry Commission (CRSFC) has intensified its enforcement drive against illegal timber dumping across the state, issuing a two-week ultimatum to timber dealers to evacuate all logs stored along roadsides.

In a press statement signed by CEO of the Commission, Rt. Hon. Dr. George O'ben-Etchi, the Commission expressed concern over the rising practice of indiscriminate timber dumping along major roads, describing it as a clear violation of existing forestry regulations.

The Commission noted that government policy clearly designates approved gantries for the storage and processing of timber, stressing that the unlawful use of roadsides not only undermines regulatory compliance but also disrupts the operations of monitoring and evacuation teams.

According to the statement, the illegal practice poses a serious challenge to sustainable forestry management efforts and weakens ongoing reforms aimed at ensuring proper resource governance across Cross River State.

“All timber dealers are hereby directed to immediately evacuate all timber from roadside locations to officially approved government gantries within two (2) weeks from the date of this notice,” (8th April, 2026) the Commission stated.

It warned that failure to comply with the directive will attract strict enforcement actions, including the confiscation of any timber found unlawfully deposited along roadsides.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable forestry practices, responsible resource management, and environmental protection, noting that the current enforcement action is part of broader efforts to restore order in the timber value chain.

It further directed all Commissioners, Zonal Officers, Forest Officers, and Chief Rangers to ensure full compliance and strict enforcement of the directive across all operational areas of the state.

The Forestry Commission emphasized that the move is aimed at strengthening accountability within the timber industry while safeguarding the state’s forest resources for long-term environmental and economic sustainability.

Archbishop Bassey Commends Otu, Wife on Easter Parade Vision, Developmental Strides

CALABAR – The Archbishop of Calabar and Spiritual Leader of God’s Heritage Global Mission, His Eminence Josef Bassey, has commended the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, and his wife, Bishop Mrs Eyoanwan Otu, for what he described as their visionary leadership in initiating the Easter Parade of Thanksgiving and advancing development in the state.

Speaking in Calabar shortly after the 2026 edition of the parade, the Archbishop noted that the initiative has not only enriched the state’s tourism calendar but has also positioned Cross River on a path of spiritual and purposeful alignment.

The Easter Parade of Thanksgiving, popularly known as the “Jesus Carnival,” an initiative of the first lady, now part of the state's tourism calendar, drew thousands of worshippers to the streets of Calabar, turning major parts of the city into a moving procession of praise, prayer, and thanksgiving. Christian groups across denominations participated, with prayer stops held at key points along major routes.

Representing the Governor, the Deputy Governor, Peter Odey, described the event as a collective expression of gratitude to God for His faithfulness over the state.

 “This gathering is a demonstration of our appreciation to God for what He has done for Cross River State and a reminder of the need to continue seeking His guidance,” he said.

In his speech, Archbishop Bassey described the parade as a divine, timely and spiritually potent initiative, noting that it reflects governance that is genuinely submitted to God.

 “This is a visionary idea that is critical in our collective responsibility of actualizing the prophetic destiny of our state,” he said.

“Your Time Has Come” — Akak Hails New Era of Inclusion for Ito-Edere-Ukwa Ward in Cross River

CALABAR – Residents of Ito-Edere-Ukwa Ward in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State have expressed renewed hope and optimism following an empowerment programme organized by the wife of the state governor, Eyoanwan Bassey Otu.

The initiative, which targeted communities in the Omo and Ebrutu blocs, featured the distribution of motorbikes, sewing machines, grinding machines, speedboat engines, mini buses, food items, and cash support to beneficiaries, aimed at boosting livelihoods and economic independence at the grassroots.

Speaking at the event, Deputy National Treasurer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ben Akak, who hails from the Ebrutu bloc, described the intervention as historic, noting that the communities had long been marginalized.

“We have never had it like this. We have never been recognized,” Akak said, while commending Governor Bassey Otu and his wife for bringing development and inclusion to the area.

Addressing the people of Ito and Ibero-Ogbo, Akak declared: “Your time has come, your season has come. Today is your day,” urging residents to embrace the opportunities presented by the current administration.

He further reaffirmed continued support for the state government and announced a financial commitment of N5 million annually for three years to support the Humanity, Rehabilitation and Empowerment Initiative, totaling N15 million.

In his remarks, Chairman of Odukpani Local Government Council, Etim Asido, highlighted the impact of the First Lady’s intervention on rural electrification in the area.

“The light you are seeing in Odukpani is from the governor’s wife, who personally funded the project. After 15 years without electricity, we now have light, and Odukpani is no longer in darkness,” he stated.

The event concluded on a note of gratitude and renewed commitment from the people of Ebrutu and Omo blocs, who pledged continued support for the administration while expressing appreciation for what they described as a new era of inclusion and development.
