Calabar Power Plant 98% ready for Commissioning

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River has revealed that May 27, 2017 has been tentatively fixed for the commissioning of the 21 megawatts Calabar power plant embarked upon by his administration which is presently more than 98 percent completed.
Ayade who disclosed this while inspecting the stage of work at the site of the power plant recently in Calabar, said that it is the desire of his administration that the power plant is commissioned two days to the nation’s Democracy Anniversary.
The Cross River Governor stated that his leadership is poised to ensure that the capital city of Cross River do not just have constant power supply 24/7 but to be the first state capital in Nigeria to enjoy such privilege, adding that “The importance of constant electricity supply in all facets of the economy cannot be over emphasized, which is why the demand for the services is always on the increase”.

“I can’t wait for Cross River, indeed Calabar to have 24 hours electricity supply, making it the first and the only state capital to enjoy 24 hours power production under two years into this administration and I think that’s fantastic. “27th of May, hopefully if we have challenges, it will not be so much but am sure the whole team is on ground and I know that Calabar Metropolis will be in for a very good time once we have this plant rolling,” the Governor stated.
Ayade explained that the demand for constant power is important for total development at this digital age, reasoning that “In Cross River State, South-South of Nigeria, just like other states across the country, the epileptic nature of services rendered by the electricity distribution companies is not satisfactory,”
He said that his administration took the bold step with approval from the Federal government to embark on the construction of the 21 megawatts power plant to ameliorate the suffering of the people in Calabar who have complaint bitterly about the poor services of power supply, poor maintenance culture, but high tariff by the distribution companies not only in Cross River but in the whole of South-South region and Nigeria, asserting that “In Cross River State, South-South of Nigeria, just like other states across the country, the epileptic nature of services rendered by the electricity distribution companies is not satisfactory,”

Governor Ayade is sad that “Consumers say they have had to contend with issues ranging from high and irregular tariff rates without constant power supply and in most cases, complete blackout”, while “In some quotas, consumers are involved in maintenance and purchase of transformer parts in their communities without reciprocal benefits of power supply, a development they view as sabotage”.
In conclusion, Senator Ayade assured that “In a matter of weeks, residents in Calabar metropolis will have alternative source of power supply, following government drive to provide an enabling environment for investors to ensure that the state becomes an epicentre of maritime transaction and a hub for manufacturing and export” adding that the project “Located along Parliamentary Extension road in Calabar, the power plant facility which is nearing completion, will adopt a cost reflective tariff which will not over burden its customers financially”.
