Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State while in Shaanxi Province to coordinate an MoU was advised by the Governor of Shaanxi Province in northwestern China to partner with domiciled Chinese companies already operating in Nigeria.
Shaanxi Province Governor, Hu Helping, who hosted Ayade told him that Shaanxi Province has a lot of business interest and prospects in Africa, and Nigeria in particular. But told Ayade that "confidence and tract record are important decisions often considered by companies from Shaanxi Province before going abroad."
He told Governor Ayade to work with Chinese friendship groups in Nigeria for easy access of Chinese investors.
Remember that Governor Ayade had traveled to Shaanxi Province to benefit from the China-African Development fund.
It is very difficult for a sub regional entity to benefit from the CAD fund. The funds are committed to countries not states. Approval for the funds must be by the president or his minister of finance or equivalent.
While Ayade was in China, Nasarawa State signed an MoU worth 700 Million Dollars for a sugar refinery. The MoU is the greatest capital and infrastructure development MoU ever signed by any state with a domestic company. It is an MoU signed in the full view of Nigerians and was done in the full glare of all executive members of Nasarawa State and their house of assembly members.
I wonder why Governor Ayade will not sign MoU with Unicem for the super highway or deep seaport. Just wondering.
Meanwhile, roads in Calabar metropolis are left at the mercy of the residents., our insensitive governor is taking a frivolous MoU trip in Shaanxi, China.
