A veteran OAP and artist with Cross River Broadcasting
Corporation Mr. Nteng Ekpan has taken to his facebook wall to throw a jab at senator
Liyel Imoke, Cross River state immediate past governor for his comments against
Governor Ben Ayade.
The erstwhile governor had given the incumbent governor a bitter
pill to swallow while giving his speech at the recently well attended Career Day
organized by the Bridge Leadership Foundation at Calabar International
Conference Center.
Speaking at the event, Imoke was alleged to have said “…When I was governor you people said I was a
sleeping governor, but I think you would appreciate a sleeping governor who
constructed rural roads across the 18 LGAs than what you have now…”
Commenting on this, Mr. Nteng Ekpang said the
same Imoke was the person who foisted the present governor on the state,
instead of helping Ayade out in his perceived times failure, he rather chooses
to backstab him in public.
“In the
circumstance, the best a man like senator Imoke, a highly respected party man
and leader would have done was to help Ayade with the best advice that will
also enable him construct roads and execute other projects that will better the
lots of Cross Riverians and not to publicly mock a man it is believed he
(Imoke) single handedly foisted on the state.” He said.
Ekpang, thinks imoke’s statement against Ayade is
a deliberate attempt to exonerate himself from the imposition of a Failed
governor on the people.
“Imoke by my thinking has just added another shameful feather to
his cap of ignoble things by that outburst which is indirectly meant to cajole
cross riverians into forgiving him.”

So Senator Liyel Imoke
thinks by saying that Cross Riverians now appreciate him better because of the
performance of the present governor will actually make us conclude that he
performed better than Ayade?
Imoke
spent two terms of 8years. Ayade is just a little above two years, and so what
makes him think that if Ayade has another six years added to his past two years
cannot spring surprises?
Agreed,
since Ayade has not and will not achieve hundred percent, his performance has
however been criticized to a large extent by his opponent, which is a natural
thing for any opposition party, to the extent that fault finding has become the
order of the day, with little or no suggestion on how to move the state
forward.
Thus, many
are gradually deserting the governor due largely to these much publicized
criticisms; some being constructive and many others politically motivated, and
Imoke may have just began his own journey of deserting Ayade too, if he has not
done so already.
This is
however not to say that Ayade has not achieved anything. I will leave that to
his legion of aides to elaborate.
In the
circumstance, the best a man like senator Imoke, a highly respected party man
and leader would have done was to help Ayade with the best advice that will

Imoke by

He may get
that in some quarters, but a lot of people will still hold the opinion that he
could do better by contributing to the growth and success of Cross River State
and the PDP, if he has not dumped it in his heart.
This is one
of the things that will surely make the exodus of PDP faithful in Cross River
to the APC swift ahead of 2019.
But
however the political pendulum swings before, during and after 2019, the
handiwork of Imoke, whether by talking or acting will play a significant role
because many of the political players in this dispensation owe whatever they
are today to Imoke, and his stand in matters of politics can influence to a
significant extent the direction of the next political atmosphere, and so it is
very important that he guards his utterances.
