I feel terribly sad that year after
year, the Calabar/Ikom highway keeps begging for attention due to its impassable
state yet nothing seems to be done towards bringing to an end the pain and
agony it has caused commuters.
It is even more saddening when I realise
that, sometime ago, we had one of the most powerful Senate leaders in the
history of Nigeria from Cross River, One of the most Closest Governors to the
then President, Goodluck Jonathan, one of the most
influential Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation. And our State was also
blessed to be in-laws to the then President, yet none of these people deem it
fit to leverage on their privileged positions to push for the complete
rehabilitation of the road yet it is the same road leading to their various
Local Government and domains. This is really sad.
What about now! We have a Government that promised us
CHANGE and as God will always have it, we have a good number of our Sons and
daughters as integral members of the CHANGE movement. We have Chief Okoi Obono
Obla as the Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani as Minister of Niger Delta, A Chief of
Naval Staff, Chairman, board of the NDDC, Vice Chairman,South South of APC,not
forgetting the seeming relationship that exist between Governor Ben Ayade and
President Buhari etc yet, nobody seems to be talking about the road.
Guess what most of them do these days? They fly from
Abuja to Enugu just to avoid the bad road, leaving me and you to bare the
brunt. I don't know what else to called wickedness other than this.
My prayer is that the souls of our brothers and sisters
who have loss their lives on that road find peace in the bosom of the Lord even
as I pray that the Lord God of host touch the hearts of those in position to
fix the road. It is one death too many...
