An APC Chieftain and a strong contender for the governorship Stool in Cross River State, Hon. Paul Adah has said that he if given the chance to lead the state, he will do that for just one term of four years. Thedailynewsng(TDN) can report.
The former lawmaker who represented Obudu, Bekwara and Obanliku local government areas in the House of Representatives for a two term period of 8 years recently made this known to journalist in Calabar. Hon. Adah said his intention to run for just one term was signified in one of his campaign pictures where he lifted four fingers up.
However, Hon. Adah was quick to add that although he intends to complete the remaining four years of the Northern Senatorial District going by the conventional zoning structure existing in the state, notwithstanding, should Cross Riverians want to give him a second term based on his performance, he wouldn't mind obliging for the good of the state.
The former Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) commissioner said as governor, he will seek for ways to restore Cross River status as an oil producing state to boost the state current standing in the NDDC as well as increase revenue for the state. He decried the degree of marginalization the state is currently facing as a non-oil producing member state in the NDDC.
Hon. Adah used the opportunity to air his views as regards the owing of salaries of local government staff and non payment of pension and gratuity to retires. He condemned the act in strong terms saying that it is a high level of wickedness and disservice to humanity.
Hon. Adah said he strongly believes in the autonomy of Local Government as it will seriously drive development and reduce the work load on the state thereby allowing the governor to focus on other areas of development.
Having worked in the Local Government system in Cross River State for about 35 years, the grass rooter believes granting the local government autonomy is for the greater good of nation as according to him, 'it will bring about rapid development in the rural areas and keep the council chairmen busy with projects instead always running down to Calabar for little things that can be handled at their tier of governance.
Hon. Adah who frowned at the way and manner the State's IGR is been handled with nobody been able to give accurate account of how much we generate internally as a state, also said when given the opportunity to be the state Chief Executive, he will increase the state internally generated revenue IGR through strategic means and deliberate policies and action plans which he said he will disclose on a later date when he unveils his blue print in full.
