Constituents' operating under the auspices of a group known as New Face 2019 has called on Rt. Hon. Essien Ayi, to shelf his 5th term ambition to the green chambers come 2019, stating that a New Face is needed to represent them at the Federal House of representatives.
The group which stormed the Cross River state house of assembly in their numbers holding placards with varied inscriptions, such as 'Mugabe must go', 'No Fifth term's, 'Time for the Youth's etc while chanting songs of solidarity sought and got audience with the Assembly's Speaker, John Gaul Lebo, accompanied by principal officers of the House.
Spoken persons of the group said they were tired with the representation of the Rt. Hon Essien Ayi, calling him the "Mugabe of Calabar South".
The group disclosed that having supported and allowed him to contest for 3 terms which should have been enough, but they magnanimously gave him a fourth term, they are now saying "No" to a fifth term, a new face is needed in the Green Chambers and that the New Face is the current deputy speaker of the CRSHA Hon. Joseph Bassey (Papa).
They specifically said that after supporting Apostle Essien Ayi to represent them in the Green chambers for a fourth term period of 16 years, they believe it is now time for a new face who is young, vibrant and active to represent the people of Caliber South, Akpaboyu and Bakassi in the Federal House of representatives.
While responding to the demands and plea of the the group, the deputy speaker, fondly called papa said the situation for him is quite overwhelming as he appreciates their concerns and prays for the voice of the people which is the voice of God to come to pass in due time.
He also appreciated their show of love despite not contributing a dime to them to carry our this agitation.
"I appreciate your concern. I first and foremost thank God almighty for giving you the thought and the love to show to me. It's not about money it's not about anything it's just devine. I did not contribute anything to bring you people here.
You came here sincerely to say that you want me to serve you in a higher capacity." He said.
"I can only tell you that this is the voice of God. God will not come down to speak for himself and I can tell you that God has never failed. And the voice of God is always real." Papa concluded.
