PRESS RELEASE
ALLEGED SPORADIC SHOOTING BY SECURITY OPERATIVES: THE FACTS AND THE FARCE
The attention of the presidency has been drawn to the malicious reports surrounding the just concluded SUG elections in the varsity and alleged involvement of the presidency in a supposed mishap in hall 2.
For the sole purpose of truthfulness, we make to distinguish the facts from the farce and to state categorically thus:
(1) The SUG President had taken the present-elect on introductory tour to various hall occupants as is customary of the office before the general address at the solidarity point.
(2) That This exercise was done peacefully in all halls of residence except hall 2.
(3) That on arrival of the SUG President in this Hall, some aggrieved occupants who claimed the Hall was a residence of their choice candidate (who had lost in the polls), seized the opportunity to mete out assaults on the president as payback for withholding his support from their candidate.
(4) That these aggrieved parties further threatened to stab the SUG president should he attempt further moves towards introducing the President-elect as the winner of the 2018 Presidential polls.
(5) That all these happened while the President was held hostage in the common lounge of the same Hall with constant threats of being bartered by supporters of the aggrieved parties.
(6) That it took the prompt intervention of security operatives to rescue the President who was now under suffocation.
(7) That at the heights of adrenal discharge and culminated grievance, one of the aggressors had smashed a couple of louvres at the common lounge with an intent to use same on the president and that the same aggressor had accidentally cut himself on the hand while advancing in aggression to actualise his evil intent.
(8) That the reports on alleged sporadic gunshots by security operatives is not only misleading but targeted at winning sympathy for a defeated candidate at the expense of the hard-earned image and integrity of our security operatives.
(9) That the SUG shall further frown at anymore attempts to shortchange the University's image on grounds of ethnocentric and sentimental write-ups capable of discrediting the electoral results and;
(10) That security operatives only succeeded in dispersing a bitter crowd and that there was no recorded victim of gunshots as there were no "sporadic gunshots" in the first place.
(11) That the general University Community retains the right to authentic information and that the SUG shall henceforth frown at anymore attempts to misinform the general public through ethnocentric, biased publications targeted at winning sympathy for candidates already defeated at the polls.
