The chairman, Cross River State Sports Commission, Chief Otuekong Orok Duke has reemphasized his commission's commitment to forge ahead with its mission to deliver its mandate of revitalizing sporting activities in the state not minding whose toes he steps on.
Mr. Duke made this known on Thursday while taking newsmen on a project inspection tour of new facilities the sport commission is erecting within the U. J. Esuene Sports stadium premises.
The sports chairman warned that he is ready to take on anybody who stands on his way while he carries out his official duty.
'I want to repeat and reinforce that in our quest to fulfill our mandate I will not compromise, we will not change any tactics that drives us to achieve our goals,
And I have realized that some worms are crawling out of the cracks, those who have been lying out low to true to suppress us'.
He revealed that some people are being paid to undermine their efforts in revitalizing sports in the state.
While on the tour, the sport boss informed newsmen that some of the projects embarked on by his commission are but not limited to the following, the Cannan city table tennis court which have been completed at the cost of over N40 million, the Squash court have been reactivated. By the weekend the Ben Ayade cafeteria, where athletes will be placed on diet will be completed and a nutritionist will be brought in to manage the dietary requirements of all athletes. The volley ball court, the basket ball court has been renovated and will be completed in a day or two, the weigh lifting court will be roofed and the wrestling court will be completed by next week. Three boreholes will be introduced in the premises.
Chief Orok Duke used the opportunity to announce the registration of a new female football club, Linda Ayade FC by the state. According to Duke the club is named Linda Ayade because having gone round for sponsorship, almost all the National assembly members we have in the sate turned down the offer, it is only the Government of Cross River state that have accepted to sponsor the club. both the Ayade FC and this new Linda Ayade FC are captured in this year's budget, which I defended before the house of Assembly.
Chief Duke explianed that he had approached the likes of Sen. Rose Oko, Sen. Owan Enoh and Sen. Geshom Bassey for sponsorship of sports in the state especially the new female football club but they all turned down his proposal.
