The Mayor of Calabar, Hon. Effefiong Nta Eke has reiterated his commitment to synergies with the Traditional Rulers Councils in Calabar Municipality while promising to ensure they have a better welfare package. TDN can report.
The Mayor disclosed this in Calabar while addressing a section of traditional rulers who were on a courtesy visit to his office. Nta noted that the welfare of royal fathers was sacrosanct, and that his administration will ensure the royal fathers have their due, stating that as custodian of the tradition they deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.
The Mayor who has already been nicknamed "workaholic" due to his numerous achievements in office within 100 days, promised to collaborate with the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs to ensure all the needs of the royal fathers are met.
Speaking earlier, the Paramount Ruler of Calabar Municipality, HRM Ndidem Eta Bassey Eteta Ita a knowledged the workaholic nature of the Mayor, stating that the traditional rulers are ready to partner with him while he delivers the dividends of democracy to the people. He, however, enumerated some of the plights and challenges facing the Traditional Rulers Council, prominent amongst them was the issue of none payrolling of some Traditional Rulers, stating that, some traditional rulers were not captured in the payroll while some are wrongly placed as village heads instead of clan heads.
In their responses, the Special Adviser to the governor on chieftaincy affairs and permanent secretary Chieftaincy affairs, Mr. Thomas Ebong, in his speech Mr. Victor Adoga respectively, pleaded with the traditional rulers to be calm that all their complaints and agitations will be presented to the Governor who will look into their concerns while assuring them of an increased welfare package.
