Interesting days are here for Cross Riverians and followers of the two major political parties in Cross River State - The All Progressives Congress (APC) and The People's Democratic Party (PDP).
Following the defection of governor Ben Ayade, his cabinet, his appointees and supporters as well as some members of the state House of Assembly, and subsequent forceful take over of the PDP's Secretariat by the governor as APC Secretariat, the leadership of the People's Democratic Party in the state have resolved to approach the matter legally.
The leadership of the party led by Sen. Liyel Imoke had immediately constituted an interim caretaker committee led by the immediate past deputy governor of the state, Barr Efiok Cobham. This move was followed by a stakeholders meeting and press conference in Calabar all in a bid to assure their supporters that the party isn't dead in the state.
Accordingly, information reaching TDN has it that the party has acquired a new Secretariat for its party affairs. The property which is said to be owned by a member of the party, Mr. Arthur Javi's Archibong was formally used as APTEC training center and located along the M/M highway in Calabar.
Interestingly, the Efiok Cobham's led caretaker committee is alleged to be considering seeking legal interpretations on the implications lawmakers voted under their partys platform who have now followed the governor to defect to the APC.
Also in a related development, a former governor of the state and presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party SPD in the last presidential election, Mr. Donald Duke is said to have indicated interest to rejoined the People's Democratic Party. While Mr. Ekpo Okon, former State party chairman and deputy governor candidate under APC in the r recently conducted elections is likely to join the PDP soon.
Indeed these are eventful and fateful days ahead for Cross Riverians.
