Asuquo Cletus Felix  | 23rd October 2022

There was tension on Saturday night,  as Gunmen invaded Ekpo Abasi Junction,  in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State and kidnapped a businessman identified as Bassey Obot who has been residing in the area for years.

TDN gathered that the Gunmen who arrived around 10:30pm on Saturday in their numbers shot sporadically into the air, before whisking away their victim.

As of the time of filing this report, the kidnappers are yet to establish contact with the family.

According to eyewitness account who pleaded not to be mentioned, he said

"These guys came in a white tinted car, initially some of us saw about 5 of them, they parked close to the premises of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints Church."

"We did not know they were kidnappers, they wore black on black, they were smoking, they had stood there for a very long time.

"This is the second time they are kidnapping this man, the first time they kidnapped him, he sold his car, but today they came.

"The man was just standing with his family, he had closed suddenly they came and started dragging the man just like that".

Our correspondents who arrived at the scene observed a crowd of sympathisers, covering his wife and daughters. The wife was seen weeping in the midst of the sympathisers.

Efforts to get reactions of the state police spokesperson, Iren Ugbo proved abortive as she did not respond to WhatsApp messages sent by our correspondents, even after reading them.
