| Gov. Wike of Rivers State |
As the 2023 elections draw near Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has revealed how he has sponsored several elections in Cross River State.
Wike who was responding to questions from newsmen on Friday in Port Harcourt during a media chat said he has supported several elections, Edo, Imo, Cross River and other states.
Particularly for Cross River the governor of the oil-rich Rivers state, while calling former governor Liyel Imoke as a witness, pointed out that he sponsored the by-election in Cross River state and the recently held People's Democratic Party's primary elections.
"I am not from that state, I am only supporting a party.
"The last by-election that was held in Cross River State, ask Liyel Imoke, I supported it because of the party".
"I've supported Cross River State during several elections. I've supported Edo State, I've also supported Imo State and other states.
"You see, Cross River came to me and I also supported in the primaries – if you want to run for election in the party and you ask me for support, I'll support you.
"People will always read meaning to things – should we not be happy?"
It is no news governor Wike had been seriously criticised for his meddling in other states' politics especially that of Cross River State, with many alleging that he is behind the emergence of Sen. Sandy Onor, PDP Governorship Candidate in Cross River State for the 2023 gubernatorial election.
Governor Wike also frowned at the level of abandonment of the southern state in terms of infrastructure by the Federal Government, stating that the dredging of the Calabar river and other rivers such as Benue and Niger will lead to economic boom in the region.
"River Niger should be dredged, River Benue too, should be dredged in order to improve the economic activities of the nation. Calabar river should also be dredged. We can not continue to play politics while our people and the nation suffer", he said.
