…cooperative clusters, a panacea towards deepening our democracy…
in furtherance of his engagement with various chapters of the seven local government areas of the Cross River Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State in their respective wards aimed towards deepening their engagement with the candidates to ensure that democracy is deepened across the various divides.
The team earlier visited the paramount chief of Okurikang to inform him about their visit and to also seek his blessings were well received. In his advice, the royal father commended them for showing leadership and respecting the royal stool. He charged them to conduct their affairs in peace devoid of problems and strife. "I respect the fact that you have demonstrated discipline and respect. The Labour Party is our own reflecting the notion of family, and this is very important and must be respected. Wealth flows in the family which your party is presenting to us. The slogan of your party also speaks highly of what the society needs, "labour", to mean work, honest work, the response also becomes very interesting, "papa, mama, pikin". Do not allow these things to exist only in principle but also in practice, and I bet you, the followership you will attract will continue to swell every day.
Responding to this development, Rt. Hon. Daniel Asuquo, the senatorial candidate of the Labour Party, Cross River South was ably represented by the Director of Operations, Prince Paul Effiong in the company of Hon. Bassey Akiba, the candidate of the Labour Party for House of Representatives, Calabar Municipal/Odukpani Federal Constituency thanked the royal father for his fatherly advice and disposition. They promised to walk their talk through reconciliations, positive engagements, clear-cut and deep-seated blueprints, and practicable ideologies that will change the fortunes of the people for good.
In the follow-up meeting with party faithfuls, the Director of Operations of the Rt. Hon. Daniel Asuquo for senate, Prince Paul Effiong thanked the chapter and the executives of the 14 wards of Odukpani for honouring the call to duty in the alternative political party aimed at making right the abnormally observed in other political parties. In his words, "we cannot deny the truism that certain indices shape our political situation, and these sentiments cannot be ignored no matter how well we intend to polish them. If you look at the southern senatorial district, Akamkpa/Biase Federal have been marginalized, it is only natural that they are also captured in the scheme of things. The same goes for Calabar Municipal/Odukpani Federal Constituency. Calabar Municipal has held unto this position for 12years whereas Odukpani was only there for 8years, so, we must tell ourselves the truth".
"The notion of credibility, track records and capacity cannot be used to question these candidates, Rt. Hon. Daniel Asuquo, Hon. Bassey Akiba and Hon. Etim Umo vying for the position of member of the Cross River House of Assembly Odukpani State Constituency. Our principal has been an ardent supporter of equity, fairness and justice. We cannot deny how he stood his grounds and walked his talk by leaving his former party, the PDP. They are all performers in their own rights, and have proven their mettle in their previous offices in delivery and track records, it is only natural that we give them the support to win all their elections", he concluded.
In a swift reaction, Hon. Bassey Akiba also commended the people for their support which they promised to push to the end. "We were supposed to be here long before now to tell you thank you, but it is better late than never. As candidates, we had agreed that we will visit you all to tell you thank you. We know you are faced with various challenges because of where you have chosen to pitch your tents, hold us by our words today before the entire world and before the press, we will ensure that all that is shared in Abuja is brought back home. We are not oblivious of the challenges of accessing some communities on the hinterlands, it is for this reason that our representation is guided by the principle of partnership, cooperative clusters which is the model yielding results in other places. We have tested this and we are very impressed by the outcome. Cooperative clusters are truly a panacea towards deepening our democracy. Be certain that the dividends of democracy from the coming government with us at the helm of affairs will address every issue of abandoned projects, and that is why we are assuring you that our constituency offices and the senatorial district office will not only exist in names but they will be busy with a beehive of activities".
Few reactions from the people expressed satisfaction. They were in agreement with the position of the candidates as their presentation did not reflect any bogus or unrealistic presentations but a reflection of who they are and what they have been noted for doing. They promised to work tirelessly to deliver all the candidates of the Labour Party.
