The member representing Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency, and the senatorial candidate of the Labour Party for Cross River South, Rt. Hon. (Ntufam) Daniel Asuquo, also known as Dansuki has commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives during the bikers' carnival, and those still recuperating in the hospital when a vehicle rammed into the fun lovers who came out to watch the spectacle after a protracted period which the carnival was suspended chiefly because of the novel Covid-19 pandemic.
Asuquo who described the accident as a peculiar tragedy said that the information he received about the accident clearly shows that such an ugly situation could have been avoided if people are ready to learn to respect and carry out their civic responsibilities without violation. "I am saddened by the fact that those that lost their lives didn't commit any offence to leave their homes to come out and watch the beautiful display that was to grace the day".
"We are well aware of the biting reality we are all faced with, hence to seek relief is not out of place but here we are, mourning for our loved ones whose lives have been cut short out of human carelessness. I watch the short video circulated online, and I have thought about these categories of victims, the reproach painted on our faces is better imagined than experienced yet we are weighed down by this calamitous situation that has rendered us powerless and helpless, truly, this Christmas is difficult to celebrate".
The parliamentarian added that the number quoted was maddening. More than 6 died on the spot whereas over twenty-something were hospitalized. This is sickening, to say the least, and my heart goes out to the victims who lost their lives, that God should grant them eternal rest while praying to God to grant their families the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. My heart and prayers to those hospitalized, as I pray for their speedy recovery".
He commended the Governor, Sen. Ben Ayade for his thoughtfulness, empathy, and quick thinking to suspend the bikers' carnival. His humanity and compassion are quite deep and balanced. Even as I condole with him as the leader of the state, this peculiar tragedy does not exempt anyone, the grief is too weighty to be carried alone by an individual as I join with him to console the families of the victims and their loved ones.
When the Governor talked about making this Christmas special, no pun was intended, little did he know it will turn out this way, but God knows best, who are we to question Him? We will however endeavour to put the sad past behind us no matter how it will be".
Kudos to the security agencies for acting swiftly to apprehend the dare-devil driver who has forced the victims of his hyper-activeness to patronize the mortuaries and hospital beds. God bless their souls and make others recover speedily, he concluded.
