As the 2023 general election approaches, politicians and political parties are scheming and working hard to outplay their opponents as they struggle to maintain the lead ahead of the polls holding in less than 50 days from today.
In like manner, after losing out from the Appeal Court, the All Progressives Congress Candidate for Cross River Southern Senatorial District, Asuquo Ekpenyong Jr. had Nicodemusly approached the Supreme Court to set aside the judgement of the Appeal court against his perceived arch rival, Rt. Hon. Daniel Asuquo, but his Nicodemus act was revealed.
Taking a closer study of the case under contention, one will need to advise Asuquo Ekpenyong Jr. and the All Progressives Congress to trade with caution least they implicate their principal, Governor Ben Ayade in the legal journey they have taken against him.
Recall that the All Progressives Congress had instituted a legal process, praying the court to prevail on INEC to delist Rt. Hon. Daniel Asuquo's name from their list as Labour Party candidate for Southern Senatorial District, stating that the process of his candidacy of labour party goes against the provisions of the news electoral act.
But in an Appeal Court Judgment, His Lordship, Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani held that Section 284 (14) C, does not extend the frontiers of challenging the nomination of candidates in another party, therefore, the judgment of the lower was set aside. Therefore, the APC has no locus standi to challenge the nomination of Rt. Hon. Daniel Asuquo as the senatorial candidate for Labour Party representing Cross River South Senatorial District, hence, their actions and inaction were best described as the handiwork of meddlesome interlopers.
Asuquo and his party had secretly approached the apex court early this year, in a bid to secure a surprise judgement but couldn't sustain the secret to the end.
Upon getting wind of the situation Rt. Hon. Daniel Asuquo in a press release issued this afternoon by the director of operations, Evangelist Lion Prince Paul Effiong has sent words to his supporters and members his party to stay calm and remain focus as the South will never produce a senator from the court.
"Need we explain that the he who goes to equity must do so with clean hands because the APC through their senatorial candidate is by his action seeking the disqualification of prominent APC candidates in the forthcoming election notably his principal and political benefactor, Gov. Ben Ayade who is contesting the senatorial election for Cross River North, HE. Sen. Godswill Akpabio, HE. David Umahi and others.
The kernel of the matter apart from the APC through the candidate meddling in the internal party affairs of the Labour Party, the case of signing two forms also affect the above-named candidates of his party which the Appellate Court in her judgment made it clear that this only affects candidates not aspirants.
The APC/Asuquo Ekpenyong have clearly demonstrated the infantile terrible approach by seeking the senatorial seat through the backdoor which according to him, Rt. Hon. Daniel Asuquo is his worst nightmare.
We are advising the APC and their senatorial candidate to concentrate their energy in more useful and purposeful venture of marketing the party and their candidates rather than resort to cheap means." The statement reads in parts.
Since his initiation into the mulky waters of politics, Asuquo Ekpenyong has demonstrated a high desperation. He is one politician in recent times that has made elective office or elections a "Win or Die" affairs.
