Speaking exclusively with TDN, the program officer Mercy Abiem informed that KDI is saddled with the responsibility of facilitating dialogue on the development of a multisectoral action plan for promoting women's Political participation in Cross River State.
She said the two days event is aimed at gathering support from CSOs, traditional institutions and the media to increase women participation ahead of the 2023 elections and beyond.
The program which held in two segments is targeted at getting women participation in electioneering processes both as leaders and voters, the town hall meeting was aimed at addressing issues affecting women and girls in actively participating in politics while the
and beyond made the appeal, at a one day leadership training in Calabar, Cross River State capital.
According to her "The people need to be sensitized and identify key priority and also engage citizens in order to improve women's participation in Politics. She also noted that recommendations made during the stakeholders consultative forum will be use to promoter greater participation of women in the elections and beyond the elections..
" The program is to gather support and increase women's participation in elections ahead of the 2023 elections. To meet with critical stakeholders like religious and traditional rulers and women in politics women CSOs, including the media to get idea and share opinions. We want to get Women involved in the process even as leaders and as voters". She said .
For sustainability she said there are plans to monitor elected female leaders to ensure they keep to their electoral promises and also approach the national legislature to enenct gender friendly laws that will encourage women in political leadership.
According to the Program Officer, the program is being carried out in 5 major states of Nigeria which include Ekiti, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Cross River and the FCT.
The senior programs manager of KDI l, Oluwafemi John Adebayo in his address, encouraged Women to take active part in politics while advocating for platform to be created where female candidates can synergize and identify each others potentials.
He said " There is a greater need for women to come to politics in Nigeria, we have never had a female governor, female president, not even a female senate president.
"When we talk of the head of the family, we say it is the man. But I am saying that it is when you lose value, that is when you begin to tell people that you are the head. Women come out and participate in politics, I know some women are afraid of victimization but let's learn to stand up for our rights, we need that extra push so that a woman can also have a say in politics. It seems the politics of Nigeria is being stereotyped but I dare you women to go out there and make a change, change the narratives ".

During one of the panel discussion segment, which had media personalities and female politicians, the need for safe paces to be created for women in politics was of the key issues discussed
