CALABAR — Pastor Dr. Bong Duke, Vice Chairman and CEO of the Cross River State Planning Commission, has reiterated the state government's unwavering commitment to promoting inclusion and accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) as the world marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
In a statement issued to commemorate the day, Dr. Duke emphasized the critical role of inclusion in achieving sustainable development and fostering a society where no one is left behind. He noted that the state, under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, remains dedicated to policies and programs that uplift PWDs and ensure their full participation in governance and development processes.
"The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a reminder of our shared responsibility to create an inclusive society where every individual's abilities are recognized and nurtured," Dr. Duke stated. "Cross River State is committed to embedding accessibility and inclusion in all facets of development, ensuring that every citizen can thrive and contribute meaningfully."
He further enumerated ongoing efforts by the Planning Commission to incorporate the needs of PWDs into the state's development agenda, emphasizing that true progress can only be achieved when everyone is given a seat at the table.
Dr. Duke called on stakeholders across the state to support initiatives aimed at breaking barriers and promoting equality for PWDs, aligning with this year's global theme of creating a more inclusive and accessible world.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities, observed annually on December 3, aims to promote awareness and mobilize support for the rights and well-being of PWDs worldwide.
