UKPADA — Member representing Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Peter Akpanke, has reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots development, particularly in the education sector, while commissioning a newly constructed six-classroom block at Ukpada Community Secondary School in Utugwang South, Obudu LGA, Cross River State.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Akpanke said although no leader could claim perfection, sustained progress was possible with the prayers, support and cooperation of the people. He described education as a critical tool for social advancement and nation-building, noting that investment in learning infrastructure remains central to his representation.
The classroom project, which replaces old and dilapidated learning structures, was inaugurated amid jubilation from students, teachers, parents and community leaders who described the intervention as timely and transformative. The modern block, equipped with desks and lockers, is expected to ease overcrowding and significantly improve teaching and learning conditions at the school.
Community leaders at the event praised the lawmaker for going beyond legislative duties to deliver tangible development, stressing that leadership is best measured by positive impact on the lives of the people. They also urged residents and school authorities to take ownership of the facility and ensure proper maintenance to encourage further interventions.
The Councillor representing Utugwang South Ward, Hon. Michael Abua, described the project as inclusive and non-partisan, noting that beneficiaries of the school cut across political affiliations. He said the large turnout at the event reflected the community's appreciation of the intervention.
Former Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Hon. Boniface Ewhe Eraye, also commended the project, describing education as the foundation for nurturing future leaders. He called on the community to safeguard the facility as a collective responsibility.
Similarly, the APC Chairman in Obudu LGA, Alpha Ublibli, and the Special Adviser on Aviation to the Cross River State Governor, Ken Aklah, lauded Akpanke's commitment to education and community development, noting that investments in schools have lasting impact beyond political cycles.
The Principal of Ukpada Community Secondary School, Mr. Igbaji Jacob Egbo, expressed gratitude on behalf of the school, describing the new classrooms as a major boost to teaching and learning. He said the best way to reciprocate the gesture was through proper use and maintenance of the facility.
The commissioning ceremony ended with the formal opening of the classroom block amid cheers from students and residents, many of whom described the project as a significant milestone in the educational development of Ukpada and Utugwang South.
