CALABAR – The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River South Senatorial District has commenced the screening of aspirants seeking to contest various elective positions in the forthcoming 2027 elections, as part of efforts to ensure credible candidate selection and strengthen internal party processes.
The exercise, convened by the Cross River Southern Senatorial District Leadership Forum, is scheduled to hold over two days at the Conference Room of the Local Government Service Commission, State Secretariat Complex, along Murtala Mohammed Highway, Calabar.
According to an official notice signed by the Forum’s Secretary, Hon. Dominic Aquaedem, the screening begins on Tuesday, April 28, with House of Assembly aspirants from the nine state constituencies in the southern district expected to appear before the leadership.
The process will continue on Wednesday, April 29, with aspirants for the National Assembly—covering both the Senate and House of Representatives—slated for interaction with party leaders.
Party sources indicate that the engagement is designed not only to verify the credentials of aspirants but also to assess their preparedness, capacity, and alignment with the party’s vision ahead of the elections.
“All aspirants are required to come along with necessary documents, including file jackets, APC e-registration slips, educational certificates, and voter’s cards,” the statement noted, emphasizing punctuality and compliance.
Political observers view the exercise as a strategic move by the APC leadership in Cross River South to streamline its internal processes, promote transparency, and minimize disputes that often arise during party primaries.
The screening is also expected to provide a platform for aspirants to formally present themselves before key stakeholders, articulate their intentions, and demonstrate their commitment to the party’s ideals.
