CALABAR — The spiritual leader of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS), Olumba Olumba Obu, has cautioned corrupt politicians to repent or stay away from the 2027 general elections, warning that the era of deceptive leadership in Nigeria is coming to an end.
The warning was conveyed by his spokesman, Amah Williams, during a press conference in Calabar on Wednesday, as part of activities lined up to mark the 25th anniversary of Obu’s coronation.
Williams, speaking on behalf of the spiritual leader, urged those in positions of authority to embrace justice, responsibility and compassion, stressing that leadership must be anchored on conscience and service to the people.
“Those who rule in deceit and perpetrate wickedness by silencing dissent and oppressing the weak and vulnerable should know that their time is up,” he said. “This is the time to entrench servant leadership, selflessness and compassion in governance.”
He warned against the use of public office as a tool for intimidation, greed and personal enrichment, adding that such practices contradict divine expectations of leadership.
Addressing the broader national outlook, the BCS spokesman noted that Nigeria’s current economic and security challenges underscore the need for a return to moral and spiritual values. He cautioned against promoting hate, division and religious violence, urging citizens and leaders alike to embrace unity and peaceful coexistence.
“As the nation moves gradually towards the 2027 general elections, there is no need to fight, kill or maim anyone,” Williams stated. “No matter how hard anyone tries, only the will of God shall prevail.”
He also disclosed that the Brotherhood is set to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Obu’s coronation on April 14, 2026, with a series of activities including humanitarian outreach, medical services, and the consecration of bishops and archbishops.
The event is expected to attract participants from across the world, including traditional rulers and religious leaders, as the organisation reflects on its growth and spiritual impact over the past two and a half decades.
The Brotherhood reiterated its call for leaders at all levels to prioritise the welfare of citizens, uphold justice, and promote peace as Nigeria prepares for another electoral cycle.
