CALABAR – Captain Edom Tamunotonye Tawo, a Harvard-trained business leader, aviation professional, and entrepreneur, has formally declared his ambition to represent the Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tawo, who unveiled his vision through a detailed campaign statement titled “A Mandate for Excellence, A Voice for the People," presented himself as a candidate driven by competence, experience, and a commitment to sustainable development.
The aviation expert said his decision to seek elective office was born out of a desire to contribute meaningfully to nation-building and provide effective representation for the people of Ikom/Boki.
According to him, Nigeria’s legislature requires individuals with practical experience, strong leadership capacity, and the ability to translate policies into tangible benefits for ordinary citizens.
“With over a decade of exceptional performance across aviation and commerce, Captain Tawo brings an unmatched combination of technical expertise, business acumen, and visionary leadership,” the statement read.
He described his aspiration as more than a political ambition, noting that it represents “the natural extension of a life spent in service to excellence and national development.”
Tawo, a career aviation captain and consultant, highlighted his experience advising institutions and governments within Nigeria’s aviation sector, adding that his exposure at Harvard Business School further equipped him with global perspectives and analytical tools necessary for effective legislative service.
The aspirant also outlined key priority areas that would shape his representation if elected. These include aviation and infrastructure development, local capacity building, commercial and enterprise growth, education and skills development, progressive aviation policy reforms, and inclusive community representation.
On economic development, Tawo pledged to champion investments that would connect Cross River State to national and international aviation networks, reduce travel barriers, and unlock economic opportunities for businesses and local communities.
He further promised to support policies and programmes that prioritise training, certification, and employment opportunities for youths and professionals within the constituency.
Speaking on education, the House of Representatives hopeful stressed the need for improved vocational and tertiary education systems capable of equipping young people with globally competitive skills.
Tawo maintained that the people of Obubra/Etung deserve a representative who is prepared, knowledgeable, and committed to delivering measurable results rather than empty political rhetoric.
“I do not come to the constituency with empty rhetoric. I come with a record of achievement, a depth of knowledge, and a heart fully devoted to the service of our people,” he stated.
Political observers say Tawo’s entry into the race adds a technocratic dimension to the emerging political conversations ahead of the 2027 elections in Cross River State, particularly within the Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency.
