CALABAR – Aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River South Senatorial District have expressed confidence in the party’s internal processes following the successful conclusion of a weeklong screening exercise ahead of the 2027 elections.
The screening, conducted by the Southern Senatorial District Leadership Forum of the party under the leadership of Barr. Eyo Nsa Ekpo, involved the verification of key documents, including educational qualifications, proof of party membership, and other requirements in line with party guidelines and electoral laws.
Speaking with journalists at the end of the exercise, several aspirants described the process as transparent, thorough, and inclusive, noting that it provided a level playing ground for all contestants regardless of status.
They commended the leadership of the forum for adopting a decentralized approach to the screening, which they said significantly reduced the financial burden and logistical stress associated with centralized exercises.
“The process has been fair and well-organized. Everyone had equal opportunity to present themselves and be assessed based on the same criteria,” one of the aspirants stated.
Observers who monitored the exercise also lauded the conduct of the screening, describing it as credible and reflective of internal reforms aimed at strengthening democratic practices within the party.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Forum, Barr. Eyo Nsa Ekpo, appreciated the aspirants for their patience, cooperation, and orderly conduct throughout the exercise, which he said contributed to its success.
He urged all aspirants and their supporters to maintain decorum and engage in issue-based campaigns as the party prepares for its primaries.
The decentralized screening, held simultaneously across the three senatorial districts of the state, is part of broader efforts by the APC in Cross River State to ensure inclusivity, fairness, and efficiency in its pre-primary processes.
With the screening concluded, party stakeholders have expressed optimism that the adoption of digital and innovative approaches will further enhance credibility and mark a shift from traditional methods of conducting party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
