Member representing Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Victor Bisong Abang, has presented a comprehensive account of his stewardship after three years in office, highlighting legislative interventions, constituency projects, empowerment programmes and development initiatives undertaken across the federal constituency.
In a statement marking the third anniversary of his inauguration into the 10th National Assembly, Abang expressed gratitude to the people of Ikom and Boki for the confidence reposed in him and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering people-centred representation.
According to the lawmaker, his administration has focused on legislative advocacy, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, human capital development and peacebuilding, while also positioning the constituency to attract more federal presence.
On the legislative front, Abang listed several motions and bills sponsored in the National Assembly, including motions on the Nigeria-Cameroon boundary dispute affecting Danare and Biajua communities, the invasion of Okwa community by Cameroonian nationals, completion of the NDDC Specialist Hospital in Ikom, dredging of the Calabar Seaport and rehabilitation of the Odukpani Junction–Ekot Ekpene Federal Road.
He also highlighted bills seeking the establishment of a Federal College of Agriculture and Forestry in Okundi, a Federal Medical Centre in Boki, a Federal College of Education (Technical) in Ikom, as well as amendments to labour laws and the National Park Service Act aimed at strengthening conservation efforts and unlocking tourism opportunities in the Okwangwo axis.
Abang said his representation has also prioritised direct intervention programmes targeted at improving the welfare of constituents.
He disclosed that over 1,000 residents benefited from Conditional Cash Transfer programmes, while another 1,000 beneficiaries accessed the Renewed Hope Nano Grant Scheme. Educational support was provided to 400 students across the constituency, while 27 Law School students received financial assistance.
The federal lawmaker further revealed that more than 100 youths benefited from National Directorate of Employment programmes, while artisans, farmers and persons living with disabilities also received training, grants and empowerment support.
Among the interventions, he noted the distribution of agrochemicals to 1,350 cocoa farmers, provision of yam seedlings and irrigation pumping machines to boost agricultural production, medical outreach programmes, sanitary hygiene education for young girls, and Christmas and New Year support packages worth ₦48 million distributed across the 22 wards of the constituency.
Abang also highlighted his response to humanitarian emergencies, including support for victims of election violence in Mgbabisu and the distribution of relief materials valued at ₦70 million to victims of the Ikom Market fire incident.
In the education sector, he listed the renovation and reconstruction of several primary and secondary schools across Ikom and Boki Local Government Areas, alongside the construction of classroom blocks in various communities.
According to him, healthcare interventions have included the donation of hospital equipment valued at ₦350 million to Abo Ebam Health Centre, installation of solar power systems in health facilities, healthcare outreaches and support for the upgrade of healthcare infrastructure.
The lawmaker also outlined major infrastructure projects facilitated during the period, including the installation of solar-powered streetlights in communities across the constituency, rehabilitation of boreholes, construction of market stalls, town halls, guest houses, road projects and a mini stadium.
He further disclosed that efforts to improve telecommunications connectivity have resulted in the installation and approval of MTN mini-masts in several rural communities, helping to bridge communication gaps and expand economic opportunities.
Abang noted that his office has facilitated employment opportunities for constituents in federal agencies, while also appointing legislative aides and constituency liaison officers to strengthen grassroots engagement.
Beyond physical infrastructure, he said his interventions have extended to conflict resolution and peacebuilding initiatives, including support for the Boje/Isobendeghe boundary demarcation process and peace seminars for traditional rulers and community leaders.
Looking ahead, the lawmaker announced a fresh round of projects captured in the 2026 Federal Budget, including the construction of health centres, town halls, classroom blocks, market stores, youth development centres and solar-powered streetlight projects across several communities in Ikom and Boki.
He said the projects are designed to improve living standards, create economic opportunities and ensure equitable development across all wards of the federal constituency.
"These achievements belong to all of us. They are not the accomplishments of one man but the result of a shared vision, collective support and unflinching belief that Ikom/Boki deserves quality representation," Abang stated.
While acknowledging that challenges remain, particularly in road infrastructure, employment, healthcare and agriculture, the lawmaker assured constituents that he would continue to pursue every approved project to completion and remain guided by the principles of humility, accountability, accessibility and service.
As the 10th National Assembly reaches its midpoint, Abang's three-year scorecard provides a detailed insight into his legislative activities and development efforts, while setting the tone for the next phase of representation in Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency.
