CALABAR –The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has recorded another significant milestone in its pursuit of internationalization, academic excellence and global collaboration, with a high-level delegation of staff participating in the 4th Annual International Conference of the Department of Psychology, University of Cape Verde.
The conference, held from July 6 to 9, 2026, was organised in collaboration with the International Association of Technology and Arts Teachers (IATATA) under the theme, "Sustainability, Green Innovation and Education."
The international gathering brought together scholars, researchers, policymakers and development practitioners from across Africa and beyond to examine emerging issues surrounding sustainability, climate change, environmental education, governance, policy development, conservation, community engagement and strategic partnerships. The conference also served as a platform for advancing green innovation and promoting the Blue-Green Economy as a pathway to sustainable development across the continent.
Leading the UNICROSS delegation was the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Bassey, whose administration has continued to place international collaboration, research excellence and staff development at the centre of the University's growth strategy.
The University's participation underscores Prof. Bassey's vision of positioning UNICROSS as a globally competitive institution through strategic academic partnerships, increased research visibility and meaningful international engagement. Since assuming office, the Vice Chancellor has consistently championed initiatives that expose academic staff to global best practices while strengthening the University's reputation within the international higher education community.
The delegation participated in the conference through sponsorship provided by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), facilitated by the sustained commitment of the Vice Chancellor and the University's Management to expanding opportunities for staff participation in international academic programmes.
Speaking on the development, the University's TETFund Desk Officer, Dr. Anthony Otiko, described the conference as a valuable platform for intellectual exchange and institutional networking. He expressed profound appreciation to the Vice Chancellor for her visionary leadership and unwavering support in creating opportunities for staff to participate in global academic engagements.
According to him, the University's growing presence at international conferences reflects Management's deliberate investment in research, innovation and capacity building, which are essential for improving teaching, learning and institutional competitiveness.
Other members of the UNICROSS delegation also commended the Vice Chancellor and the University Management for the opportunity to represent the institution on the global stage. They noted that interactions with academics and professionals from different countries would broaden their research perspectives, foster collaborative partnerships and enrich knowledge exchange across disciplines.
They expressed optimism that the experiences gained from the conference would translate into improved research output, stronger international collaborations and innovative teaching approaches capable of contributing to the University's strategic development objectives.
