The President, National Youth Council f Nigeria, Odukpani Chapter, comrade Okon Philip said all is now set to host the first ever peace and security summit in the council area.
Speaking in an interview session with our correspondent, comrade Philip said the summit is necessitated because of the turbulent peace and security bridges the local government is currently facing as a result of both intra-local government and inter- state communal clashes between Ikot Offiong in Odupkani local government area of Cross River State and Oku Iboku in Itu local government area of Akwa Ibom State.

The summit which has been slated for Monday 28th August by 10 am at the council secretariat will have the following persons as participants: The community youth leaders, women leaders and heads of youth’s organizations registered in Odukpani LGA as well as the clan heads and the paramount ruler of Odukpani and The sons and daughters of Odukpani local government area.
According to comrade Philip, these set of persons are key players and stakeholders in the community thus they can act as good agents to forestall peace and maintain security in the area as they will in turn teach and train as well as encourage their subjects to imbibe the spirit of peace.

We had sat down and tried to look at the positive side of it, who and who can be invited to the summit. There are key players or stake holders in each of the community that can help in talking to our people and those are the community youth leaders. The main participants in this summit are the community youth leaders, women leaders and heads of youth’s organizations registered in Odukpani LGA. So when talk to these set of persons, they in turn will know how to address their members and adjust their excesses. That is one of the strategies we seek to use to achieve our aim for the peace summit. He said.

The summit will feature addresses and talks on peace and security from the Nigerian Police force, Peace Corp, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp.
As a way of maintaining total peace and security in both ltu and Odukpani local government areas, the Odukpani chapter of Nigeria Youth Council have decided to reach out the their Itu local government area counterpart to encourage them to also put up similar event where peace will be preached to the Itu people also.

Comrade Philip had used the occasion to call on well meaning members of the society especially resident and businesses based in the council area to come to their assistance as they host the peace and security summit come 28th August 2017.
