Odukpani Youth Council Agitates for Community Policing

The chairman, Youth Council of Nigeria Odukpani Local Government Chapter comrade Okon Philip Effiong has called on the Federal Government to introduce community policing in the country.

Comrade Philip made this call on while answering questions from our correspondent bordering on the forthcoming Peace and Security summit billed to hold on Monday, 28th August 207 at the Local Government Council Hall, in Odukpani.

Comrade Philip said the Summit will address several security and anti-peace issues the local government is currently facing.

Comrade Philip said introducing Community Policing in the country will go a long to maintain peace and order as well as assist security agents to comb out hoodlums and warmongers from the community.

We as the Youths of Odukpani are agitating for community policing. We want the police through the federal government to set up police post/ stations in all the council wards not just in Odukpani, but across the whole federation as this will go a long way to reduce crime rate and violence and bring security closer to the people.

Recall that there had been recent inter-state crisis between some communities in Odukpani Local Government of Cross River state and some communities in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state.  These clashes have claimed several lives and properties in both communities.
Mr. Philip who said his Organization had been of great assistance to the security agents in the community by supplying them with information about crisis, and crime related issues.

He used the opportunity to invite all Odukpani sons and daughters to be part of the event and appealed for support and sponsorship so as to make the event a success.
