Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Betta Edu last week at the District Health Information System (DHIS2 ) Review Meeting and free integrated health outreach final planning meeting disclosed that the Governor of Cross River state Sen. Ben AYADE; has earmarked 261 communities in the state for intensive free health outreach. The intervention which is expected to affect lives of Cross Riverians who need health care the most; in areas with limited access to health care services is expected to improve health outcomes.
The meeting which was attended by all Primary Health care Directors, All local government Immunisation officers, all Mobilisation officers, all Monitoring and evaluation officers from the 18 LGAs, afforded the DG an opportunity to remind the Primary health care Local Government Management team of their role in the revitalization of Primary healthcare in the State.
According to her, the team is expected to improve on health services in their LGAs, improve data reporting on the District Health Information System (DHIS) which provides a baseline data for planning implementation and monitoring of major indicators of disease pattern, preventive services and physical resource distribution.
She urged them to regularly hold review meetings at the LGA level before uploading anything to the national dashboard. She called on them to take responsibility for capacity building of the staff in their LGA while decrying the paucity of Health workers at the LGA.
Dr Edu tasked the health workers to immediately begin sensitization and community awareness about the free health outreach in 261 communities, Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week coming up from 24th November, 2017 and the monkey pox scarr in communities.
She notified them about the free integrated health outreach which is a basket of many cost effective interventions in one pack with focus on strengthening the health system. She noted that this has been made possible by the support of His Excellency, Senator ( Prof) Ben Ayade and UNICEF.
The DG used the opportunity to hand over some ultra sound scanning machines for scanning of pregnant women at PHC facilities in CRS and the Vehicle donated by EU SIGN for immunization Push System where vaccines will be deliver at the door post of all PHCs.
Finally she charged the PHC Coordinators not to relent in sending their monthly report to the Agency as it will afford the opportunity to know what is happening at the LGAs level and where the State can come in to intervene.
The meeting focused on the mechanism of data collection, transmission, processing, analysis and information feedback to the first level care facilities & secondary level health care facilities.
Also present were several partners; UNICEF, AFRINET, WHO, Head of Units in the Agency, Director Primary Healthcare, Dr Ana Onebiene, State Nutrition Officer, Mrs Regina Adie, State Immunization Officer, Mrs Grace Utiung amongst others.
