The Minister of information and culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said that Cross River State has been recognized as the Number one tourism friendly state in Nigeria thus the Federal government's readiness to always honour any invitation from the state.
The minister who was represented by a deputy director in his ministry, Patricia Joshua Narai disclosed this during the Calabar International Tourism Expo 2017, held at Channel View Hotel, Calabar, Thursday 14th December, 2017.
The minister made it clear that Tourism is a big business that is quiet different from other sectors such as the production sector, hence the need to collaborate with other sectors if success must be recorded. He also added that The Presidential Advisory Council on Tourism has been put together to achieve this purpose.
'Tourism is a multifaceted industry with capacity to create massive job employment with a positive economic impact. Although it has negative impact on the environment but this can easily be controlled'. The minister added.
'The recommendations that will be fashioned out during this meeting must be strictly adhered to if the essence of this event will be achieved' He advised
The event which was put together by Elder Peter Ofuka, the Executive Director /CEO of Calabar International Tourism Expo (CiteNigeria) had the Commissioner for culture and Tourism, Mr. Erick Anderson represented by the MD of Tourism bureau present the welcome address. Mr Anderson, while addressing participants at the Expo said, he desires that the expo becomes stronger and bigger like the Carnival Calabar brand.
Highlights of the event were the inspection of various tourism stands present at the event by the honourable minister and lectures by prominent experts in the tourism sector.
The expo drew international, National and state presence as it was graced by Mr. Sintim Barimah Asare from Ghana, the Honorable minister of information and culture ably represented, Mr. Clement Umina, MD Tourism Bureau as well as stakeholders in the industry such as NTDC, FAAN, Drill Ranch, Nigeria Export Promotion Council, Tourism Bureau, and a whole lot of others.
