The senator representing Cross River state south in the upper house, Sen. Gershom Bassey has come out to say that he spent N585,000 (Five hundred and eighty-five thousand naira) on 68 constituents. According to the senator, the monies were meant for wedding gifts, aid for medical attention, payment of school fees and burial assistance.

This information was made available to newsmen by the senator's special assistant, George, who claimed that between 17th to 26th of January, they have received 183 phone calls, 144 SMS, 48 wattsapp messages, 35 emails within the short period adding that the units, wards and local government areas of those who have made contact are on hand and can be confirmed.

He said the high traffic on the lines may be the reason some calls experience a little delay before going through but no call is ignored or neglected.
“Those lines are functional twenty-four hours and if you are on wattapp kindly send a message to these  numbers and see if it won’t go or your message will not be answered.”

It will be recalled that Senator Bassey has come under criticism over an allegation that he provided numbers that were not connecting for his constituents to call.

He said people should be patient if their calls do not go through at first attempt as someone else may be on the line because the Senator is a man of honour who keeps his word and has vowed commitment to the welfare of his people and will not post fake contact lines on billboards for any reason.

welfare of his people and will not post fake contact lines on billboards for any reason.
“We have received 35 emails with accompanying requests, CV's and proposals and the Senator is working on them and has also referred some to the state governor whom he has discussed some of the issues with and the governor is on top of the matter on such issues
