| Rt. Hon. Daniel Asuquo |
A Nigerian lawmaker and member of the Green Chambers representing Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Daniel Asuquo has revealed why most politicians fail to deliver on their campaign promises to their constituents after being voted into office.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony of executive council members of Labour Party in ward eight (8) of Calabar Municipality in Calabar, Cross River State, Asuquo pointed out that the pressure mounted on politicians during elections to give money for campaigns or buy votes is one of the reasons they don't attempt to do anything for the people after elections.
In his words:
"Let me tell you the reason why we send people to the National Assembly, state Assembly, governorship, presidents and they go there and do what they like different from what they promise you, it because when you go into a contract there must be terms and agreement. And if you go into a contract and the day you are supposed to execute the contract, you go and collect money, the contract has been paid for. And so when you to vote and ask for money, you go to campaign and ask for money. They have paid you for four or eight years."
"Do you know where the politician borrowers the money from? Do you know whether he had to break a bank? Do you know whether he had to pay interest he could not survive with? And you say he has not performed. Where do you want him to get the money from?"
"It is only those who know they were chosen by the fear of God and that they will return one day to the people after service. Those are the ones that will pay do the votes and still go back and appreciate that it is God that gave the power and still goes back to do the very best for their people."
The lawmaker also informed that it is whitcraftcy for brothers to eat what belongs to the family without considering their other brother. Stating that out of the 7 LGAs in the South only Biase and Akamkpa that are yet to produce a Senator for the district.
Recall that DANSUKI as he is fondly called recently defected to the Labour Party to contest the Cross River Southern Senatorial District race after a failed attempt to gun for the Cross River State gubernatorial seat in the People's Democratic Party.
