A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Cross River, Chief Ifere Paul has commended Governor Ben Ayade for being proactive in rescuing the 9 kidnapped travellers along Calabar-Ikom-Ogoja Highway who were kidnapped a few days ago.
Ifere while commending the governor in a statement made available to our newsroom, said the news of herdsmen abducting travellers along the only road that leads in and out of the state capital was troubling, but the governor's prompt mobilization of security personnel to rescue the 9 kidnapped travellers along that axis is quiet a relief.
He therefore, called on the State Commissioner of Police, to carry out proper investigation, make more arrest and make public the identities of those behind the attacks.
His statement reads in full:
"I commend His Excellency Governor Ben Ayade, CON, over the prompt mobilization of security personnel to Uyanga to rescue the 9 kidnapped travellers along that axis, which has given back hope to the people of Cross River State.
I was particularly troubled when the news broke out that "Herdsmen" has invaded Cross River State, and that it will no longer be business as usual along the Calabar-Ikom-Ogoja Highway. It was more troubling knowing that this is the only entrance "to and from" Calabar, the State capital of Cross River State.
I'll continue to stand with his Excellency to secure Cross River State and for demonstrating the desired leadership within the hours of the incident till now.
It is also a welcome development as His Excellency, Governor Ben Ayade has also requested the Federal Government to draft e-security personnel into Cross River State, and has asked the Federal Government to deploy its Tuscano Surveillance Aircraft to comb the Uyanga forests.
Your Excellency Sir, please be kind to also involve the Inspector General of Police office to deploy the latest drone capability to the entire Cross River State, not just Akamkpa Forests.
The police should as a matter of urgency, through the Commissioner of Police office in Cross River State release the identities of those arrested in connection with the incident of the kidnapped travellers. Cross Riverians are desirous of the truths.
Thank you, Your Excellency! From the bottom of my heart, I am most grateful for arresting the situation from collapsing.
Long Live Cross River State! May His Excellency, Governor Ben Ayade finish stronger than expected.
Chief Ifere Paul
Recall that TDN had reported the arrest of the kidnappers where the state Police command informed that the kidnappers were locals within the community and not herdsmen as reported earlier in some section of the media.
Current findings states that 3 of the kidnappers are feared dead as they were said to be gun down by the police.
