C'River 2023: 15 Political parties set to adopts governorship candidate for 2023






Not fewer than 15 political parties are currently putting finishing touches to form alliance with a major political party to win 2023 governorship election.

The political parties under the aegis of Coalition of Opposition Political Parties, COPP confirmed readiness to announce their preferred Governorship candidate in the coming days.

Our correspondence who was privy to the development spoke with some state Chairmen of political parties in Calabar. When contacted, the Chairman of APM Pastor Ntami Esege is the Chairman of COPP acknowledged that there has been marathon meetings of political parties after party primaries. He assured that their resolution will be conveyed to the general meeting through a Press conference soon.

When contacted, the state Chairman of IPAC, Comrade Anthony Bissong Attah declined comments stating that he's not the chairman or spokesperson of COPP. When pressed for more details, he only added that political parties are free to hold meetings and discuss issues of mutual interest.

Commenting on the matter, Dr. Innocent Ekwok, state Chairmen of National Rescue Movement NRM confirmed that COPP will certainly adopt a preferred candidate for the 2023 Governorship election in Cross River State. In his words, *I can confirm to you that we have been discussing with other political parties with interest in taking over Peregrino House come 2023. We all can not win election and become governor at the same time. Only one party will be declared winner and so we have resolved to adopt a party of our choice for 2023 election ".

On his part, the Governorship candidate of Action Alliance AA, Prince Ekeng Effiom was faster in his reaction. He averred that "2023 is a critical year in Cross River State. We can not afford to continue like this. As candidates for Governorship, we have resolved to support one of us to rescue our state from maladministration and nepotism".

Also speaking on behalf of Forum of Governorship Candidates for 2023, Engr. Edet, Governorship candidate for APP affirmed the position of the group. He said, "our alliance for a better Cross River State is an unbeatable one. 2023 election is a very crucial election for all of us. You can't see 15 out of 18 political parties joining forces together and then imagine that any other force will be able to match them. BVAS is our weapon and we'll make our statement soon. Just watch out!"

Anonymous source from one of the big parties confirmed that baring any change of mind, his party would be announced as the beneficiary of the consensus arrangements.
