The Governorship candidate of Young Progressives Congress, Comrade Joseph Coco-Bassey has commiserated with families of those who lost their lives as well as those with various degrees of injuries during the last edition of the Calabar Bikers' Parade.
Coco-Bassey who issued a statement to address Cross Riverians on the matter said the ugly incident was avoidable if those in charge of planning the event had done a thorough job in terms of security and other logistics.
The statement reads in parts:
"With a heavy heart, my team and I wish to commiserate with the families of those who lost their lives & those who got various degrees of injury during the ill-fated but avoidable accident which occurred in Cross River State on the bikers carnival day.
Never has such happened in our dear state at a season as this and we pray that never will it occur again. Our hearts and grief goes with those who lost their loved ones as we join well meaning Cross Riverians to pray for a peaceful repose of their souls while we also pray for a quick and perfect recovery for those injured."
Speaking exclusively with TDN, the gubernatorial hopeful, said the governor have to lunch a probe over the incident with the detailed investigation to bring the culprit and all those with lapses in the execution of their job during the event to book.
He said the only way to appease the souls of the departed and their loved ones still living is to ensure somebody pays for the mishap.
"No stone should be left unturned, a proper and detailed investigation should be launched and Cross Riverians are interested to see the report and whoever is found wanting in not carrying out his/her job efficiently that gave room to that mishap must be brought to book. Only then will the souls of the departed and their family members be consoled."
Joseph Coco-Bassey used the opportunity to call on Cross Riverians to ensure they remain vigilant this festive season and continue to support his ambition as his mantra is people-oriented, stating that when voted into office Cross Riverians will experience a different brand of Tourism and Carnival Calabar.
