The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi has said that he will revamp Tinapa and make sure it works again while ensuring the state returns as Nigeria"s
Speaking in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, Obi said the death of Tinapa is due to negligence from the Federal Government which didn't fulfil her part of the bargain for the growth and development of the multimillion-dollar investment hub. Obi promised that as President, he will ensure the International market is restored.
He also said, he will make use of the vast land the state has for the planting and processing of cocoa for export through the Calabar port.
"In Cross River state, we have abundant land where we can plant cocoa, process it here for export, you have your seaport here. We will restore Tinapa, we will make it work. We will make it work for tourism. Tinapa did not work because the federal government promised what they would do but didn't do it. Let nobody deceive you, you can't drive from here to Uyo, we are going to fix it.
Cross River State is the Tourism capital of Nigeria, we will revamp it. We will make it work. It's a land of prosperity. It will work under us, the federal government will work with the state government to make work." He said.
The presidential hopeful went ahead to assure Nigerians of a renewed and better Nigeria while asking Nigerians to trust and hold him responsible.
"Be rest assured, we want to renew Nigeria, don't go and vote for people you don't trust. Trust me, my wife was born here, brought up here, and I married her here from Akwa Ibom. I can assure you we are committed to the development of Nigeria.
Hold me responsible!"
Also, addressing the teeming crowd, was Aisha Yusuf who said the 2023 presidential election is an election for survival, it isn't the usual election known by Nigerians. She, therefore, called on Nigerians to ensure they cast their votes for the labour party as the present and previous governments had failed Nigerians.
The Chairman of the Party, patriarch Osim Ogar told Obi not to worry as Cross River state will give him massive votes.
The visit which began with a Town hall session with student groups at Kolanut centre, a visit to the palace of the Obong of Calabar and the traditional ruler's council was rounded up with a rally at U.J. Esuene stadium where a large crowd received him at the stadium with traditional dances from various troupes and live performances by some artist in Cross River State.
