Young people in Cross River state under the chairmanship of Comrade Daniel Obo of National Youths Council of Nigeria, Cross River State chapter has expressed reservations over some comments credited to former governor Donald Duke on the incumbent governor of the state, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade
Speaking during a Town hall engagement with youths leaders across the southern part of the state, Obo said Cross River Youths will will no longer tolerate insults on the office of the governor. Stating that the governor holds the peoples mandate, therefore, whatever is thrown at the governor is indirectly thrown at Cross Riverians, as such Cross River State youths deserve an apology
He went on to call on the ex governor to show young Cross Riverians the right kind of politics and not to meddle himself with the politics of double standard. Where he once praised the governor at the rice seedlings factory few years back and today he is speaking ill of the governor because of political differences.
"Such statement accredited to the office of the governor it's not only embarrassing, it's an insult to our entire sensitivity as Cross Riverians, you know Ben Ayade holds our mandate and whatever you throw at Governor Ben Ayade today is beloved that you are throwing on Cross Riverians.
He further challenges the ex-governor to produce his polling unit results since he left office as governor.
His statement reads in parts;
" Your leaders are going to our various Senatorial districts to tell lies, we have a former governor going around and telling people that he has never heard the name Ben Ayade before, that he is not a member of the family and so does not understand the politics of Cross River.
Between you and I we know its not true, so as young people we should not sit here and watch people insult the office of the governor.
Since his Excellency Donald Duke left office he has not won any elections, go and find out and so who ever he endorses is insignificant to us as a generation, but we need him to know that we will no longer tolerate insults on the office of the governor.
We call in security agencies as well as our traditional institutions to call his Excellency the former governor to order to avoid breach of security because as young people we will not entertain any insults on the governor any more.
"We all know that Local government joint accounts commenced under his watch and local government funds were also diverted too.
The southern leaders that are going round campaigning against the south, if we're in advance Societies they are supposed be be stoned." He said.
In a related development the Cross River State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria says there is no going back on zoning in the state.
Dan Obo disclosed this to newsmen recently in Calabar. He said the council has endorsed the candidature of the APC gubernatorial candidate Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu and also adopted the party because of its youth friendly disposition.
"We are not going back on supporting a southern governor for Cross River State and in doing so we must win because we have seventy percent of the votes.
"We cannot have seventy percent of the votes and then loose elections.
"We have come here to reaffirm our commitment that we are in for this and are not going back.
"For today it is visible to the blind that the political party that has more going people flying their flag for 2023 is the APC..
"As an institution we will stand for a party that gives more young people the ticket.
"We at the Youth Council will support the APC and will mobilise all our youths to stand with the APC and God willing we will win", he said.
He explained that the position of governor in the state goes round the three Senatorial zones of the state and for equity sake, it's the turn of the south to produce the next governor.
He also said the APC has one of them on it's ballot paper as running mate and that the APC gubernatorial candidate engaged the youths on his plans for youth development in the state.
"It is the turn of Cross River South to produce the governor.
"The position of governor goes around the three Senatorial districts.
"80% of the youths are here with us, and as you know politics is a game of interest and we know we will win.
"We have one of us on that ballot which is the deputy Governorship candidate and so as young people we will do everything humanly possible to make sure that Ambition sees the light of the day.
"Prince Otu consulted us and shared with us his plans for youth development in the state his antecedents in the legislative houses is excellent and so as young people and another young man with him on the ballot we have confidence the ticket will be of value to young people and we will support it", he said.
He said they are confident the youths will triumph because It is no longer time to hijack materials, send youths to kill themselves but the BVAS will speak for itself
