CALABAR – The Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, has signed four bills into law, charging relevant government agencies to prioritise effective implementation to ensure the new legislations translate into tangible benefits for citizens.
Speaking shortly after assenting to the bills at the Government House in Calabar, Governor Otu stressed that the true value of any law lies not in its passage but in its execution, noting that poor implementation has often undermined well-intentioned policies in the past.
He urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to move beyond bureaucracy and take deliberate steps to operationalise the provisions of the newly signed laws, warning that his administration would not tolerate laxity or delays in delivering results.
According to the governor, the bills were designed to address critical sectors of the state’s development and improve service delivery, adding that government remains committed to reforms that directly impact the lives of the people.
Otu further emphasised the need for synergy among implementing bodies, calling for collaboration, accountability, and continuous monitoring to ensure compliance with the objectives of the laws.
He also reassured residents of his administration’s determination to entrench a culture of performance-driven governance, where policies are not only formulated but effectively executed for sustainable development.
The governor reiterated that his administration would continue to pursue people-oriented programmes, urging public officials to see their roles as a responsibility to serve rather than an opportunity for personal gain.
The signing of the four bills marks another step in the state government’s legislative and policy drive aimed at strengthening institutional frameworks and accelerating development across Cross River State.
