CALABAR — Controversy has erupted in Cross River State following allegations by Patrick Inah, popularly known as Patosky and identified as a media aide to a political figure, who accused the Commissioner for Youth Development and Skills Acquisition of masterminding an attack against him during events surrounding the APC primary election process for Akamkpa/Baise Federal Constituency
In a video circulating on social media, the visibly injured Patosky alleged that he was assaulted after the primary election, claiming he was attacked by individuals allegedly linked to the Commissioner. He said the incident left him with injuries including damaged teeth, chest pains and difficulty moving his neck.
According to him, security personnel on ground intervened and prevented what he described as an attempted assassination, after which he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
“They beat me… two of my teeth are already falling out and my chest is paining me… They collected my phone, removed money from my pocket and tore my clothes,” he alleged in the video.
The victim further appealed to the Cross River State Government to investigate the incident and determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack.
However, in a press statement issued by the Office of the Commissioner for Youth Development and Skills Acquisition, the allegations were dismissed as “false, baseless, reckless and a calculated attempt to smear the reputation and public image” of the Commissioner.
The statement maintained that the Commissioner has built a reputation as a peaceful and youth-focused leader and has never been associated with violence or intimidation.
“For over three years in office, the Honourable Commissioner has distinguished himself as a peaceful, humble and youth-friendly leader whose commitment to youth empowerment, inclusiveness and development has earned him widespread commendation,” the statement read.
The Commissioner’s office also alleged that Patrick Inang had a history of making inflammatory comments against public officials on social media, insisting the Commissioner had consistently ignored such provocations.
While urging the public to disregard what it termed “mischievous allegations,” the Commissioner’s office called on security agencies to conduct a “thorough and unbiased investigation” into the matter and identify those responsible for spreading false information.
The incident has generated mixed reactions among political observers and residents, with calls mounting for an independent investigation to establish the facts surrounding the alleged attack and ensure accountability where necessary.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not publicly commented on the allegations or announced any investigation.
