CALABAR – Cross River State Governor, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has said his administration has laid solid foundations for economic sustainability and positioned the state beyond traditional boundaries, promising that the next phase of governance would focus on completing key projects and expanding development outcomes.
Governor Otu made the remarks while reacting to his emergence as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the party’s primary election held at his ward in Adiabo.
Speaking on what Cross Riverians should expect from his renewed mandate, the governor said his administration had already initiated strategic reforms aimed at strengthening economic independence and transforming the state’s development trajectory.
“What we have done in this time in almost all our thematic areas is lay solid foundations in terms of proper economic sustainability and independence. The sub-sovereign called Cross River, under this administration, has gone beyond Nigeria completely,” Otu stated.
He noted that while his administration has focused on building long-term structures for growth, the next phase would concentrate on delivering visible outcomes and completing projects already initiated.
“We believe that what people will see in the second term is the manifestation and completion of some of those projects which we have started, and I think the benefits will show,” he added.
The governor’s comments come amid growing support from party faithful and national APC officials, who monitored the governorship primaries across the state and repeatedly praised his performance in office.
Observers say Governor Otu’s emphasis on economic sustainability aligns with his administration’s broader development agenda, which prioritises infrastructure, investment, entrepreneurship and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening the state’s economy.
Responding to the overwhelming support shown during the primary election, Otu described the endorsement by party members as a call for greater responsibility and service.
“It means a lot. The support we have received calls for greater service to humanity. We have been doing our best, but with this total affirmation, we will even do more,” he said.
The APC governorship primaries attracted party stakeholders, national officers and supporters across the state, with the process largely described as peaceful and reflective of confidence in the governor’s leadership.
The governor’s renewed economic projections suggest that his administration intends to consolidate ongoing reforms while pursuing broader development goals aimed at increasing Cross River’s competitiveness and economic relevance beyond the state and national levels.
