CALABAR –The Deputy National Treasurer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Engr. Ben Akak, has expressed confidence that the performance of Cross River State Governor, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has already positioned him for re-election ahead of the 2027 governorship poll.
Akak made the assertion while leading a National APC delegation on a monitoring tour of the party’s governorship primaries across the 18 local government areas of the state, describing the governor as a high-performing leader whose achievements have earned admiration within the APC National Secretariat.
Speaking during the visit to Akamkpa Local Government Area, Akak said the level of participation and support witnessed during the primaries reflected growing confidence in Governor Otu’s leadership.
“The Governor of Cross River State is described at the National Secretariat as a man who can deliver the indeliverable. He has been able to deliver almost all the elections he has been sent to handle. So, if he can deliver for others, what about himself?” Akak stated.
“We are confident from the exercise we have seen that the Governor has already won his second term, and Akamkpa is contributing to that,” he added.
The APC national officer attributed his optimism to what he described as the governor’s performance in governance, infrastructure development, political leadership and strengthening of the party within and beyond Cross River State.
According to him, Governor Otu has become one of the most respected APC governors nationally, earning recognition for helping to consolidate the party’s influence in the South-South region.
“The Governor has done exceedingly well at the national level. He is well respected, admired and his performances have resonated at the National Headquarters,” Akak said during a separate engagement in Calabar Municipality.
He further disclosed that Cross River enjoys a special status within the APC because of Governor Otu’s contributions to the party, adding that the state could attract more national attention and benefits as a result.
The National Deputy Treasurer also highlighted the governor’s achievements across sectors, including infrastructure, entrepreneurship, governance reforms and inclusion, insisting that such efforts had strengthened public support for his administration.
Speaking after the affirmation process at his ward in Adiabo, Governor Otu thanked party faithful for the overwhelming support and said the endorsement would inspire his administration to intensify efforts toward development.
“It means a lot. The support we have received calls for greater service to humanity. We have laid solid foundations in critical sectors, and what people will see in the next phase is the manifestation and completion of many projects already initiated,” the governor said.
The APC delegation, which toured several local governments as part of its oversight responsibility, repeatedly urged party members to sustain mobilisation efforts ahead of future elections, maintaining that electoral success depends on grassroots participation and party unity.
The monitoring exercise concluded with widespread endorsements for both Governor Otu and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, as party leaders pledged stronger mobilisation across Cross River State.
