The speaker cross river state house of assembly Rt. Hon. John Gaul Lebo in a bid to bring succor and medical relief to his constituents has flagged off a free medical care campaign in his immediate constituency of Abi Local government Area of Cross River state, ThedailynesNg can report.
The free medical care which is a health insurance scheme in partnership with the AyadeCare project was flagged on Wednesday 11th April 2018 at the famous Dr. Eja memorial Hospital Itigidi, Abi LGA.
According to the Lawmaker, the free health insurance scheme covers treatment of several illnesses which has been fully paid for and it is expected to span to 11th April 2019. He, therefore, pleaded with Primary health care workers in the various wards to be effective in mobilizing people from the 10 wards of Abi LGA to come for the free treatment, he also used the opportunity to advise the constituents to avail themselves of this opportunity to be treated, and that co0mplicated cases will be referred to the Dr. Eja Memorial hospital or The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital in Calabar.
While speaking to newsmen briefly after the event, the number three Citizen in the state revealed that to make the scheme accessible to the people, primary health care coordinators have been selected for each of the 10 wards in Abi whose primary responsibility is to sensitize and mobilize their people to access the free Health Care treatment.
He further disclosed that although the scheme is a subset of the AyadeCare Insurance scheme which will be launched in May 2018. But due to the exigency of the need to bring health care relieve to his people and at such a time as this where the economic situation in the country is unfriendly and with the consent of his Excellency the Governor, the project as facilitated by him has first taken off in Abi.
Speaking Earlier, the Commissioner of health, Dr. Mrs. Inyang Asibong had said that the scheme in Abi is going to act as a pilot, while the ministry of health will be watching to see how the project fairs.
Ovai Edward Osim, village head of Usumutong and Paramount Ruler of Abi LGA, thanked the Speaker for such timely and needful gesticulation and promised that information about the free medical outreach will be properly disseminated to the people of the area.
