A former speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, and the member representing Cross River State in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Hon Orok Duke has called on the Youths to remain United irrespective of political affiliations while reaffirming that Tinkoriko, a sociocultural group based in Calabar will continually support the Back to South movement.
Orok made the call on Monday, when thousands of youth stormed the streets in Calabar, the Cross River State capital to celebrate "Tinkoriko" a socio-cultural and apolitical group in the state .
Tinkoriko which is celebrated at the beginning of every new year, is an annual dance procession celebrated with the aim of uniting youth groups and bringing to them, a sense of their cultural heritage.
Addressing journalists during the procession, Orok said youths needed to have a sense of governance, as well as being a uniting force which will bring about peaceful relationships as well as unity and development.
He said " We are here to celebrate Tinkoriko, this has been a long standing celebration for the past 27 years and still counting.
" As you can see everybody is happy, we are not about to make trouble far from it, you can move about freely, nobody will harass you nor take anything away from you.
" This Tinkoriko as you see is to unite the youth and to make a strong case that power must come to the South. It is the right thing to be done not because of anything but power must be south this time around for equity and justice.
" After now that is after our tenure when the south finishes for 8 years we can then zone it to the Central Senatorial district.
"Yes we will ensure it but across party lines we have Prince Bassey Edet Otu whom we have chosen to be our next governor. "- he said.
Our correspondents observed that various numbers of political gladiators attended the event notable amongst them are RT Honourable Danuski from the Labour Party, Asuquo Ekpenyong Ekpenyong of The All Progressive Congress, as well as the deputy speaker of the State house of assembly Joseph Bassey.
