CALABAR – In a continued demonstration of inclusive leadership and grassroots engagement, the member representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency, Bassey Akiba, has reaffirmed his commitment to religious harmony and community development by sustaining his annual Ramadan outreach to the Muslim faithful.
Although unavoidably absent due to official engagements, the lawmaker ensured his presence was felt during this year's Eid-el-Fitr celebration by releasing the sum of ₦1,000,000 (One Million Naira) to support members of the Muslim community in marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Hon. Akiba, who has over the years maintained the tradition of breaking fast with the Muslim Ummah on the final day of Ramadan, is widely regarded for promoting unity, tolerance, and mutual respect across religious lines within his constituency.
Representing him at the event, Ward 10 Liaison Officer, Mr. Femi Stanley, conveyed the goodwill message of the lawmaker and formally presented the financial support to the community.
Speaking during the occasion, a respected community leader, Alhaji Sani Baba Gombe, expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, noting that Hon. Akiba's consistency in identifying with the Muslim faithful, even in his absence, speaks volumes about his character and leadership style.
He further commended the lawmaker for his inclusive approach to governance, which he said continues to foster peaceful coexistence among diverse religious groups in the area.
Alhaji Gombe also seized the opportunity to applaud Hon. Akiba for facilitating the provision of critical medical equipment to the Primary Healthcare Centre in the community. According to him, the intervention has significantly improved healthcare delivery, enhancing access to quality medical services for residents.
He offered prayers for the lawmaker's continued strength, wisdom, and capacity to serve the people, urging him to sustain his developmental strides for the benefit of all.
The Ramadan outreach, observers note, has become a symbol of Hon. Akiba's enduring connection with his constituents, reinforcing his reputation as a leader who not only advocates peace but actively invests in building stronger, more united communities.
