CALABAR –The National leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended the peaceful conduct and credibility of the party’s governorship primaries in Cross River State following an extensive monitoring exercise across the state’s 18 local government areas.
The APC National Delegation, led by the Deputy National Treasurer, Engr. Ben Akak, alongside other national and zonal party officials, toured several wards and local governments to observe the governorship primaries and assess the level of participation, transparency and compliance with party procedures.
Speaking during the exercise, Engr. Akak said the delegation was mandated by the APC National Secretariat to monitor the conduct of the primaries and report back on the process.
“We were sent by the National Secretariat of our party to witness the peaceful conduct of the exercise. So far, we are impressed,” he said.
According to him, observations from the various local governments visited reflected massive grassroots participation and overwhelming support for the administration of Governor Prince Bassey Edet Otu.
The APC Deputy National Treasurer noted that the turnout witnessed across the state demonstrated party unity and readiness ahead of future elections.
He particularly described Cross River as a special state to the APC National leadership, attributing the recognition to Governor Otu’s performance and contributions to the party at the national level.
“The governor’s performances have resonated in the National Headquarters. He is regarded as one of the party leaders who has delivered on major assignments and strengthened APC’s influence in the South-South region,” Akak stated.
Also speaking during the monitoring exercise in Akamkpa Local Government Area, the APC Zonal Organising Secretary said the tour across the 18 LGAs had confirmed widespread support for Governor Otu and validated the credibility of the governorship primaries.
“We had a mandate to inspect and monitor the governorship primaries across the state, and what we have seen confirms that the process has been peaceful and credible. It also shows that the people are with Governor Otu,” the official said.
The delegation visited local governments including Calabar South, Calabar Municipality, Akamkpa and others, where party faithful gathered in large numbers to participate in the exercise and reaffirm support for the APC leadership.
In his reaction after emerging from the process at his ward in Adiabo, Governor Bassey Otu expressed appreciation for the support received from party members, saying the endorsement would inspire greater commitment to governance and service delivery.
“It means a lot. The support we have seen calls for greater service to humanity. What we have done so far is to lay solid foundations, and we believe the next phase will focus on completing those projects and expanding development,” the governor said.
The APC National Delegation urged party members to sustain mobilisation efforts ahead of subsequent electoral processes, stressing that unity, loyalty and participation remain essential to the party’s continued success.
The monitoring exercise concluded with assurances from the delegation that observations from all 18 LGAs would be conveyed to the APC National Secretariat as part of efforts to strengthen internal democracy and electoral credibility within the party.
