In a grand celebration of the season, he shared the joy of Christ's birth with State Appointees hailing from Akamkpa, Local Government Appointees, the Traditional Ruler's Council, the ten political wards, councillors of the legislative chamber, council staff, and prominent figures from the region.

The Head of Administration, Mrs. Victoria Essien, lauded the chairman's magnanimity, noting the historical significance of his actions. "From what I've gathered, it has been a long time since live cattle were tethered here in the council premises, but today we have seen more than three, in addition to those already distributed. Every unit has been recognised and accorded its due honour," she observed.

LAGOS, Nigeria – Canaan Table Tennis Champion, Hope Udoaka, is set to make waves at the ongoing National Table Tennis Championship organized by the Lagos State Table Tennis Association (LSTTA) and the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF). 

The highly anticipated tournament doubles as the 10th edition of the ELICRIS Cups National Table Tennis Top 32 Invitational Championship, a premier event in the nation's sporting calendar.

The championship which takes place at the iconic Sir Chief Molade Okoya Thomas Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, draws the nation's finest table tennis talents with Players arriving last Sunday, December 22, 2024, for the three-day event, with matches commencing on Monday, December 23, and set to culminate on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.

This year's competition features both the Men's Singles and Women's Singles categories, contested in two divisions: the Open category and the Under-19 (U-19) category. A total of 64 elite players—32 men and 32 women—have been invited, with reserves also present to ensure a seamless competition.

The tournament structure comprises two stages: a group stage played in a round-robin format, followed by an intense knockout phase. Matches in the group stage and the early knockout rounds are played over five games, while the semi-final and final matches are decided in a best-of-seven format.

The event has garnered attention for its high level of organization and competition, with sponsors and stakeholders expressing their support for the growth of table tennis in Nigeria.

Reacting to an article by Mr. Austin Ibok of the PDP, which called for political unity in Cross River South to unseat the governor in 2027, Engr. Akak clarified his unwavering support for Governor Otu, stating that his relationship with the governor predates the 2023 elections and transcends politics. He emphasized his commitment to service and loyalty, urging all parties to respect his decision to focus on his personal endeavors.

"My personal relationship with His Excellency, Prince Bassey Otu, is one of mutual respect and trust. This was a major factor in my decision not to contest against him in the 2023 elections, even when I had offers from other parties. I not only publicly congratulated him after the APC primaries but also mobilized my supporters to deliver my constituency for him," Engr. Akak said.

The initiative, spearheaded by the newly established Department of Entrepreneurship and Capacity Building in the church, speaks volume of the church's commitment to combating youth restiveness, idleness, and unemployment. Governor Otu Commits to Food Systems Transformation, as C'River Blaze the Trail

CALABAR – Stakeholders have reiterated the need for a multisectoral approach to strengthen food systems in Nigeria, with Cross River State emerging as a key advocate for sustainable solutions. This was emphasized during the Food Systems Transformation Biannual Review Meeting held in Calabar from November 26 to 27, 2024.

In his keynote address, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Peter Odey, stressed that transforming food systems is integral to improving nutrition and ensuring food security. He called for concerted efforts at all levels of government to address systemic challenges.

"The transformation of food systems towards improving nutrition and health is non-negotiable," the governor stated. "With the current efforts by my administration and stakeholders, I am optimistic that we will achieve sustainable food systems capable of addressing food security, nutrition, and environmental sustainability."

Dr. Bong Duke, Vice Chairman of the Cross River State Planning Commission, emphasized on the state's proactive measures to address food system constraints across implementing sectors. He outlined the administration's goal of positioning Cross River as a model for health and food security by 2027.

"A sustainable food system ensures food availability, accessibility, affordability, and desirability without compromising the economic, social, and environmental bases for future generations," Duke said. "This administration is intentional about its objectives and is working tirelessly to reduce the adverse food and nutrition indices to the barest minimum."

Duke added that the state's food system initiatives align with Governor Otu's vision of making Cross Riverians the healthiest citizens in the country.

Cross River as a Regional Leader

Permanent Secretary of the Cross River State Planning Commission, Mr. Kingsley Ndem Eyibio, reinforced the state's commitment to leading food system transformation efforts in the South-South and South-East geopolitical zones.

"Cross River is proud to serve as a trailblazer in coordinating the Food Systems Transformation Pathways in this region," Ndem said. "This initiative is part of a broader national effort to ensure food security, affordability, and sustainability for all Nigerians."

Eyibio noted that the state had already begun reaping the benefits of its leadership role, with increased opportunities for collaboration with development partners and donor organizations.

"We are leveraging this platform to build partnerships, explore innovative strategies, and promote intergovernmental relations that will enhance food systems across the region," he added.
